SVP Naomi Matsuoka was asked to explain the reason why Sony stopped disclosing PlayStation Plus subscribers this quarter. After confirming the growth through the expansion of network services, Sony decided to stop disclosing the number of Subscribers.

She mentioned that now PlayStation Plus has moved to a tiered format and Sony would like to continue promoting the shift to higher tiers of the service by increasing the appeal of PlayStation Plus
On the other hand, Sony will start disclosing software sales outside of PS5, including sales on PC.

PC is the best place to play Sony games. Payment is optional, improved settings and performance.

If there is no PS5 Pro and a change in direction, as well as many more announcements I'm out when my PS+ sub expires next year. I'm not going to support them if they threat me like a second class citizen.

Shame on the mod that gave me a warning for it. Should've been a man instead and just told me to my face you don't want me here instead of playing these petty games. I'm out, now you can all praise Sony without much criticism, congratulations on the echo chamber.

when will they start disclosing this? Soon? Or do they mean in future earnings reports?

To me this says that subscriber numbers are not growing, and thus making them look bad. Additionally, they should show software sales for their first party releases (ongoing, not just random dates)
Their first party sales has been on decline since PS5 launched barring Ragnarok. They'll never be transparent about them again unless a record is broken.

This is my take as well. Subscription numbers have probably reached a peak growth rate; they will continue to grow in the future but not at a rate appealing for disclosing in fiscal reports. Same exact thing happened with Game Pass.

Agreed that they should probably also disclose 1P sales as ongoing, but TBF no one really does that, not even Nintendo. They will always wait for milestones before providing an update on a game's sales numbers. The other big takeaway for me is them disclosing PC software sales numbers: either they're expecting a big boon in sales there or this is reverse psychology to convince shareholders that ports to PC (outside of GaaS titles) aren't worth it.

So basically just like Nintendo and every other publisher in the industry. No one gives weekly or monthly sales updates of their titles; the best we had for that was NPD/Cicarna until they stopped reporting direct sales numbers.

Famitsu & Media Create are decent but only really for new or semi-recent releases, or the few evergreen titles that hang around in the Top 10 (which generally tend to just be Nintendo games and Minecraft).

That would be true if they disclosed TLOU Pt 2 numbers, for example, which we're pretty much guaranteed are over 10M already (probably closer to 20M). The truth is that unless it's something record breaking, they don't seem to share much beyond first week / month sales.

They did announce that TLoU 2 sold over 10+ million last June.

While I believe it is bad move I can understand why they are hiding PS+ subs.
The Extra and Premium conversion are probably way lower than what they expected while most players are good enough with PS+.

And to be fair I like that… I don’t like a gaming world where subscription wins over tradicional gaming development because it will probably make games gone down in quality, scope and size (most cases will love to episodic releases).

So Extra and Premium not getting traction makes me very happy and make me thing that the gaming industry is still in the right path.

They announced 10 million in early 2022.

We’re happy to share that The Last of Us Part II has sold through more than 10 million copies globally, as of this Spring

That doesn't make any sense as they have never shied away from disclosing subscriber count shrinking before. There must be some other strategic reason they stopped.

It has to be the same reason every other company stops reporting numbers.

Growth stops.

They all do it.

Probably hit 20-25 mil on higher tiers before stagnation. Good for industry, we don't need more subscriptions crap.

It's better to hide the numbers and just show the dollar amount instead (it's always going up).

Microsoft will use these numbers when they move every silver and gold member on PC/Xbox to "Core" and brag they beat Sony. Fake numbers as usual.
