Vehicles were more for place you had connected with highways.
Most missions to progress was in desolation places that you couldn't use vehicles at all until connect it and create (or allow highways from community).

By foot was the biggest challenge in these places... any mistake and you lose your cargo (needs to restart everything) or become dead

I'd rather it not be MGS. The story is already too convoluted, a lot of the games were released because Konami wanted more MGS, not because Kojima wanted more MGS.

Give him a clean slate to build a new franchise.
