(Windows Central) This is the one thing PS5 absolutely did better than the Xbox Series X and S

Coming from Windows Central, this was an obvious consequence of the proprietary format. Even I could see this coming years in advance, but now this is truer than ever before, SSD prices are much lower for PS5 owners AND our SSDs can be much faster too.

  • Longevity (it will be possible to find NvME drives even if Sony stop making the PS5s)

Benefits of the xbox storage upgrade
  • Easier to install
  • Marketing can use them in promotion with nice pictures
  • You get to show how rich you are

Apparently, since Riky can move his between his Series S and Series X, MS made a pro-consumer decision to go with the proprietary unit, and everyone else who just wants to keep one in a single machine are ungrateful for the convenience that Lord Phil granted them.

The whole defense for xbox solution is either "it's easy to plug in" or "oh i can take my games to my friends house"

Second reason is legitimate advantage but it is very niche usecase and most people will benefit more from lower prices for more storage.

Most Xbox gamers out there are just normal people like you and me, and it's sad to see them get the raw end of this due to a terrible design choice made by their engineers and higher-ups.

As I said, a lot of people are not enthusiasts like people on this forum, they don't know all the technical jargon that the vast majority of gamers know or understand.
