People vote in this so wukong won which is justified as Goty should be decided by players

They both released 1 game, if you think one studio's game is better than the other, not sure how one studio wins studio of the year and another studio's game wins game of the year.
I could see if a studio made multiple games.

The glazing for Wu Kong makes little sense to me. I beat it in 60 hours and I spent most of that time very bored with its combat and level design. It's a soulslike with fancy graphics, and it was lacking BIGTIME in the gameplay department.
I truly don't know what it is about this game many people gravitate too. The other souls like games I've played (Stellar Blade, Lies of P) clear Wukong. And if you've been playing FROM games for 12 years like me, Wu kong felt like it didn't tread any new ground.... just monkey souls.
Personally (and I'll admit that I haven't played it yet) I think it's the hype from China, which is ironic in a lot of ways. It's really the first major AAA game of this level/type out of China.
But I don't think Chinese audiences are going to start reading western gaming media if they give it awards. Maybe it's just gaming media just wants to grow the market in general, I don't know.
It's on my list, but I'm in no rush to play it, especially in the state that it is in, but I've always been a fan of Journey West since I was a kid and I love eastern mythology, so I'm glad it's getting more exposure. Growing up we were inundated with Greek mythology and some egyptian. Recently norse mythology has become pretty big thanks to shows like Vikings and The Last Kingdom (though I loved it since I played Rune on PC in 2000 and watched 13th warrior in 1999).
It reminds me of when Black Panther was nominated for an oscar for best picture. I think it does a disservice to the media itself and to all media around it.
it is very hard to critique anything on Stellar Blade. bonkers that the game is on very few nominations.
Can't beat the 1.3 billion chinese! Hopefully the TGA doesn't look like this knowing critics hold 90% of the vote with the remaining 10% being the public. I would rather have balatro take the award over wukong at this point.
Better visuals, gameplay, story, music, level design. Stellar Blade is completely ace, makes the wukong glazing even more confusing lol. I have a hard time believing someone who played both would prefer wukong.
Goes to show that a game that only scores an 82 can indeed win GOTY.
With Dragon Age in 2014 it was understandable. There wasnt too many.
But FF7, Metaphor, Astrobot.. they deserve it more
