Follow up story and many many new mechanics added to TOTK. Its not dlc.
Sequels just have to be follow on or new stories. Theres no pact that sequels have to be completely different or be very different. Especially if they were successful before
Plenty of expansions add and continue or create new stories. Plenty of expansions have way bigger sweeping evolutions to gameplay, which Totk had not much of unless you consider a trash loot system like fuse.
Nintendo gets away with lack of criticism because it’s Nintendo and can literally sell their consumers cardboard.
There is nothing done in Totk that couldn’t have been an expansion but the reality is the switch isn’t the tech for it.
Does anyone even watch it anymore because of the awards? Last year they skipped one of the most successful titles. I'm excited to see what happens this year. My personal GOTY, Stellar Blade, should at least be nominated in the Soundtrack and Action Game categories. But I wouldn't be surprised if it gets completely ignored, for well-known reasons.
I don’t watch it because the fillers, ads, and bullshit talk.

I just look at the announced trailers on forums.

I don’t need to play anything to know it.
If it was not Baldur Gate 3 O should vote TotK as GOTY 2023… it is was not just an amazing sequel but an incredible game by itself.
And I was on side that BotW was a bit overrated… TotK is much better than BotW that is really unfair to compare them.

Considering the fact that Keighley is massive PlayStation fanboy, you would think that he would just have a separate category for dlc/expansions AND a separate category for remakes/remasters. Maybe he wants to give Elden Ring expansion a win since he got the premiere of Elden Ring back at SGF in 2021.
