“On the heels of The Last of Us remake going gold, developers have shared info on the lack of crunch in place during development.”

The report of lack of crunch comes from Principal Environment Artist on The Last of Us Part 1Anthony Vaccaro. He states that for the first time in his career he didn't need to crunch to finish a game across the multitude of studios and projects he's worked on. He also shares that while avoiding the need to crunch, the team managed to hit the same quality bar that The Last of Us 2 set.

Not to be a stick in the mud but ... is any of that because you know ... the game was already made before?

Let's see if they can do that for their first actually new IP for PS5. Where is it btw?

Naughty Dog said they were making big structural changes, i think this is just the beginning. Hopefully you we get similar reports when factions and the new game ships
If they can do that, they should definitely share the sauce.

Cuz there is crunch and there is CrUnCh.

From what I know Insomniac doesn’t really crunch, which is absolutely insane for the output they have and the quality of games.
Thats what I hear from ratchet and clank. And Jaffe said he talk with someone and confirmed that.

Yep is insane, I wonder if Spider-Man 2 is closer that we think.

The original was delayed so I wouldn’t be super sure but if they can hit next fall (spider-man 2018 was september) it should be a really good year. If we don’t get gameplay in late august/early september then its not coming

Depends how the project is managed. Insomniac don't crutch and their output is phenomenal. It's a false narrative that crutch is needed to produce AAA videogames, it is so embedded in development culture, that people think it is the only way to do things

Maybe he didn't cruch but other people did. What Mumbauer (the boss of the Sony VASG team who pitched and started this game as lead studio, and later moved back to their original support studio role) said about crunch in his interview with Jaffe? As I remember he said that his team crunchunched like motherfuckers.
