Or it's the fact that xbox hasn't had truly defining software since the 360 era or that they conditioned their userbase to not buy their software. But sure, let's go with PC and now cloud as well. What next, microtransactions?

Btw, Sony has been doing cloud before xbox. How come they're not dead yet?
it's been proven PC releases and Cloud gaming dilutes the console audience, that's exactly why sony doesn't do it day and date but it still has negative effects on hardware sales wanting you or not

Microsoft is in this situation not because of the PC but because of gamepass, putting day one games on it and telling people you don't need a console leads to this disaster.

Even the Xbox One with the bad policy of 2013 didn't have such catastrophic sales, and yet their games were released on PC too.
I wouldnt underplay the pc part, as some do ultimate leave the platform. But gamepass as many said for a while ruined the platform and ecosystem. No one buys 1st party games. More importantly majority of their base stopped buying 3rd party games while also having difficult hardware to develop for. No 1st party revenue outside sub, no 3rd party rips and im sure many developers are telling them they may be cutting support for financial or development issues

after 2017 when they started releasing games on PC their numbers went downhill

Xbox One sales before 2017 was at ~28 million
Xbox One sales after 2017 (i.e. from January 2017 until the end of gen) was at ~ 58 million (+30M)

PC releases have nothing to do with it.

Seems that they continue to slowly moving away their gaming focus from their console hardware, moving to have a more multiplatform approach with Windows as their home platform.

Because while doing that Sony is destroying Xbox?

Sony released PS cloud gaming in 2014, before MS. And has been making computer games all the generations since 1984. So isn't anything new.

They started their recent PC push in 2019, little before the PS5 release, and more recently improved their cloud gaming/gamesub in different stages.

This period/generation (and particularly now) SIE's revenue, profit and console active userbase are higher than ever before. They're making more money than ever in total, from console, PC and gamesubs.

Their related KPIs increased during this period, so if it had any effect on them is positive, not negative.

Interesting, I thought that the distance between PS5 and X|S was bigger. According to your numbers, the ratio is

PS5 vs X|S is 2.25:1 (2.36:1 according to Oscar Lemaire)
PS4 vs XBO is 2.06:1
PS3 vs 360 is 1.19:1
PS2 vs XBX is 2.56:1

I have no idea about who Oscar Lemaire is, and also the source of these numbers.
Oscar Lemaire is a french analyst.

It's also the guy behind ludostrie website.

The source for PlayStation figures is Sony.
Xbox and 360 figures are from Microsoft.

Xbox One is estimated by ZhugeEx.

Xbox Series is just an estimate, at the best case.

Ah, I see. Not sure if it's the same guy but reminds me of a French Nintendo fan who makes very beautiful graphs with the fiscal reports data and interesting related Twitter threads.

noth true at all

According to this linkedin account it's from

Aug 2017 - Aug 2019 so only 3 years

Don't forget the Xbox One ending production was at the end of 2020.

But officially Microsoft has announced 22 million units sold of Xbox One at october 2016 (so pratically at the end of the year).

Any post of this on installbase or Resetera ? I need to see those.
Here's a preview.

Installbase: *Ignores news* PlayStation 5 remains behind PlayStation 4. This is disastrous for the console market and no one is immune from the decline (except Nintendo *slurp slurp*)

Resetera: Let me tell you why pulling out of EMEA is a good thing for consumers and Microsoft.

They've already suffered layoffs and some of their owned studios got closed like arkane Austin. It's only a matter of time if Bethesda can't turn it around (and I'd bet against them)

I doubt Zenimax/Bethesda will fold, even if they ultimately suffer under Xbox.
They will likely buy themselves out... If/when that does happens, it just proves (once again) they all should have left things at status quo.

Hell No! ES and Fallout are too big. They don’t need Xbox. They can just put those games on PS and PC and make bank.

What is the point of buying themselves out without IP? Bethesda ain't no Bungie they will be like a 3rd world orphan without ES and fallout, maybe they will be allowed to walk out with slopfield but those other 2 will have to be pried from the cold dead hands of microsoft proper

Bethesda is still probably making money out of Skyrim so they're fine for now.
Elder Scrolls VI is probably a PS6 + PC title.

It's a combination of things, not just PC. While that pushed people away from the platform, it isn't the main reason.

Them not having any good games since 2011, the Xbox One reveal bombing the entire generation and Gamepass are much bigger issues.
