I don't care. If Tom Henderson is correct with his information leak (what I definitely do believe), then the Japanese will buy an portable PS6. The Steam Deck is too weak to run FF7R, FF16, Dragon's Dogma II (only some examples of newer releases) in a moderate performance. It runs horrible on that device. The Nintendo Switch 2 won't be for 100% be powerful. It will be weak as Base PS4. Plus even if you try to rewrite history, 7m sold PS Vita consoles were sold in Japan. Vita has a total lifetime sales of 16.7m units. The demand is there and if Sony's launches a portable PS6 sku, it will definitely sell. Your tears and malevolence won't change anything.
By the time this thing launches those games will be 8 to 12 years old. It might carve out a niche but its not going to be a homerun and its not going to receive AAA support in the west beyond what Switch 2 gets.

And this type of stuff is exactly why I keep saying Switch 2 is going to get a LOT more 3P AAA support than some want to pretend otherwise. Now yes, some games will still have obvious shortcomings compared to PS5 versions, but the vast majority of the gaming audience either don't care about the small differences between "fake" and real resolutions, or don't even notice it at all.

Just another reason why games like GTA6 will get Switch 2 ports...likely ahead of the PC version at that, in GTA6's case. Maximize three userbases to then double-dip on a PC version vs. just two. Makes too much business sense, and a lot of 3P will feel the same way. As well, if Nintendo make use of their IP in platform-exclusive content for 3P games on their system, that just adds extra value to those versions and reasons for people to at least double dip on a Switch 2 edition of the game.

That won't work for all games, obviously, but for key titles it could definitely be a major factor in further driving hardware and software sales.

This is just PSSR 1.0...
It still has a long way to get in a stable state. Remember Nvidia needed years to get DSSL where it stands today.
Yes that's for sure will improve, but don't forget that PS5 Pro has 300 TOPS. A handheld will be lucky to get 50 TOPS. So, the AI tech will be very inferior. To upscale from low resolution, the hardware needs to do more work.
These youtube guys using RTX cards with huge tensor cores ( 700+ tensor flops) to prove the concept are unintentionally over selling it.

When the Switch 2 launches it will have 0 user-base. It starts from zero again not 155 million.

PS5 will have 70-75 million user-base.

Steam has 130 million user-base.

No chance GTA 6 gets a Switch 2 port before PC for obvious reasons.

Both technical and userbase/market size.

Crazy to think we have experts saying the PS5 Pro will run GTA6 at 30fps cause of the CPU but here we are talking about the Switch 2 port and before PC too.

A glorified last generation tech handheld.

And by the time GTA6 comes out, Switch 2 will probably have a userbase of 15 million, possibly more. By the time a Switch 2 port would be ready, that userbase would likely be double in size or close to it (assuming a H1 2025 launch for Switch 2 and mid/late 2026 port of GTA6).

So where the install base is at right at launch means nothing.

Market size won't be a reason and won't be an issue. Tech-wise Switch 2 won't hold performance back if R*'s engine is even halfway competent at scaling. Plus DLSS 3.x in Switch 2 hardware can help with performance by a lot.

Crazy to think we have experts saying the PS5 Pro will run GTA6 at 30fps cause of the CPU but here we are talking about the Switch 2 port and before PC too.

You mean Digital Foundry? THOSE are the experts? 🤣🤣 Yes I'll listen to guys like Rich & Alex, who seem to have sticks up their butts about PS and have had a general dislike to the brand since last gen. The same "experts" who have dismissed the pro's performance capabilities, you listen to those guys?

Whether DF or not, no one can say definitively if GTA6 won't run at 60 on PS5 Pro. None of them really understand PSSR, and none of them really know how much API tools will improve by the time GTA6 is ready to release. As for Switch 2, it'll be comfortably enough to run the game at least at settings equivalent to whatever R* aims at for Low settings on PC.

After all, R* aren't gonna shut out the vast base of Steam users on low-end graphics & CPUs or even many iGPUs, who make up the vast majority of Steam users. And, those would be specs the Switch 2 can hang quite well with.

A glorified last generation tech handheld.

Don't know why Switch 2 got some of you so shook 😂

I'm expecting Sony to release a PlayStation Portable alongside PlayStation 6 in Fall 2028. OLED Screen. 1080p/60FPS/HDR. Backwards compatible with PS4/PS5 games. Digital and streaming only. Great CPU, RAM and SSD but a weaker GPU due to it being a portable and not needing the visuals due to a much smaller screen.

It will sell gangbusters in my opinion.

That's kind of the MO for people on this forum.

Someone spits facts that don't mesh with a previous statement and rather than try to refute those facts, they throw a laughing emoji because they think that somehow refutes the post.

Everything he said was factual and not in dispute. So what's funny exactly?

The Switch never even got GTA5 yet we're to believe that the Switch 2 is going to be prioritized over the PC?

He says things, doesn't think them through, convinces himself that he is right and anyone putting facts out otherwise is somehow laughable?

Would I be surprised if the Switch 2 gets GTA6? Somewhat. It got GTA Trilogy definitive edition, but those were significantly older games.

Japan and Handheld enthusiast would. A reminder that the PSP sold close to 80m units. What had PS Vita killed was the lack of 1st party software and newer games. Plus overpriced and proprietary storage cards. Also a PS6 Handheld would definitely be popular in Japan and Asia, countries where people work a lot and prefer comfy entertainment...
If this new Sony handheld isn't just a handheld PC (LOL it might be), then they will leave it to die just as they have the vita, psvr, and psvr2.

No. The new Handheld is going to be a portable Sku of the PS6. The rumors shared by Tom Henderson last year in 2023 was that one traditional home console and one portable version launching at the same time. The same games will run on that handheld with reduced specs will be the only difference.

Do you think that is even possible?
The PSP launched a little less tha 2 years before the ps3 and was weaker than the ps2.

The vita launched a little less than 2 years before the ps4 and was weaker than the ps3.

If that is the plan then either the ps6 is going to be much less stronger than we thought or the next ps portable will be much more expensive than we are thinking.

I just can't see a PS portable being able to run the same games at lower settings as the ps6 and launching around the same time as the ps6. That would be the most massive jump a handheld has ever gotten and thats without getting into the issue about battery life?
I think a lot of people like me were hoping for a ps4 portable during the ps5 gen because I think a lot of people don't see it possible anytime soon scaling the ps5 down to be played on a portable without completely reworking the games.

Sony is not going to develop another closed-ecosystem for an Handheld. Even Nintendo confirmed that the Switch will be a direct continuation of the first formed ecosystem. It will be much easier to develop a Base PS6 + a portable SKU of it.
