That is absolutely stunning. PlayStation keeping COD alive, but the franchise seems to be in terminal decline. Buying it was like catching a falling knife.

MS has a policy of using contractors for 18 months, afterwards you no longer allowed to work for atleast 6 months.
They call it 18 6.

Within software most talented devs work as contractors, their leverage is their skills and they gain higher payment with less security. But since their skills are in demand they might work for years on the same projects/teams/companies.

MS policy of 18 6 will stop that arrangement. The deal was closed last year, that will mean that next cod, and thereafter will be impacted. We might even see the first cod delay next year, since the batch of semi permanent contractors will no longer be allowed to work on the game for 6 months.

Below is a junior dev on forza that had 18 6. Effectively he worked for 12 months on the project of which the first few months are still onboarding. It clearly explains how forza Motorsport turned out the way it did. Be aware he is a junior, and if you listen closely he had allot of room and to make impact. Leaving quality to juniorish contractors isnt a recipe for success. In the video he talks about how much he tried to make it a success and he gave his all but the environment is making incredible difficult.

Cod in general just seems like a ticking time bomb with how much it cost to make. Eventually the playerbase is gonna age out and lose a bunch of players as the younger generation is tied to subscription and free 2 play titles.

The xbox drop is obvious. Most people who have xbox and frequently use it have gamepass meaning there was no reason for them to buy the game as they did in the past. Heck like 2/3 the console base has it. Cant grow subscriber count if the console doesnt sell.

Another think here...

I see no point to have the PS4 version of CoD.
It was a waste of resource imo.
It won't reach 30k in UK.

Might be the one nice thing in the data that people on last gen might finally be moving forward. As sales dry up there might finally see the push from third party for people to upgrade

As long as the bump in GPU revenue outweighs the profit from lost sales, Microsoft does not care.
Likely isnt close to balancing. Those who bought on xbox prior already had some kind of online subscription if not GPU already thus eliminating the revenue completely. Some may transition to the higher tier which if they stay for the whole year might balance the scale for those people

Xbox sales have tanked even further thanks to GamePass, which almost assuredly won't see an extended increase in subs. Indiana Jones and Avowed won't help either as they both look like mediocre ~15 hour games.

Classic Xbox.

Why buy a game for £70 that you can play for a month for £10? The strategy only works if people sign up for longer than 7 months.
Microsoft are hoping to attract the lazy, credit card crowd from the 90s.

Good luck.gif.

More likely the strategy was to never starve playstation of games.
K was the strategy.

Microsoft being a third party publisher to keep their business afloat Activision is practically saving them Sony don't even have to do all the marketing Microsoft doing most of it for them writing is on the wall their be pushing more forward with project latitude they were even using PC gamepass to try to boost their pathetic numbers on Xbox
This is where if PS didn’t releases games on PC converted the rest of PS4 players to PS5 by having true permanent exclusive games & building upon the catalog. Putting the last knife into Xbox & wiping there entire market share & pivoting there focus towards competing w PC/Steam & Nintendo by consolidating & buying Capcom & Square & go on overdrive in PS studios output to really put Nintendo in the corner while also forcing 3rd party developers to parity w PC/Steam stuff like early access on 3rd party games that releases on PC/Steam & PS no longer a thing & lowering the entry for indies to publish games ok PS & do things like early access which will further parity PC & PS & put Nintendo in the corner where they would have to force devs aswell essentially making that Valve would have to pay developers for marketing rights if they want to have 3rd party early access or skip the PS platform entirely but if PS acquire Capcom & Square it would be undeniable for a publisher/studio to skip PS if PS exclusive catalog includes iconic franchises like resident evil, dmc, final fantasy, dragon quest etc. PS then wouldn’t be loosing PS players to PC or Nintendo & they could focus on output & annualizing there franchise while remain quality due to scaling up w more studios & franchise & becoming extremely flexible in the gaming market
