I think they trimmed the right amount of fat. Not a fan of John Garvins writing at all and him and Ross seemed like they were mostly at odds with most of the studio

Looking forward to Ron Allen taking the reigns

I like the profile: has been there since the PS1 days, started as tester and before that he was involved with arcades and is a huge Street Fighter fan.

Do you know how long they've been working on this game? Could give a rough timeline for when to expect some official news (or a release year).

They are a small studio so the earliest they possible could have started production is end of 2019, after Concrete Genie. The first job listings went up for the new game in 2020

Depending on the scope they could def show it this year for an early-mid 2024 launch

Jury still in session to see if Jimbo’s Sony can cultivate studios’ talents to improve them. We shall see.

Tsushima and God of War 2018 are their two big success stories to me in newer era Sony. It’s really impressive what they’ve done. They will be able to rival Nintendo’s IP and perceived brand quality sooner than later.

I’m a big fan of both Housemarque and Bungie clearly. And those two are coming into the fold already in top form so seeing what Sony’s influence and money can have will be exciting moving forward. They’re of similar pedigree too.

The variety is there

Housemarque will end up being what Fromsoftware is eventually. Something that appeal to a niche audience of hardcore games with really tight annd good feeling gameplay that will get bigger each game release. All they have to do is keep refining the Returnal gameplay in thte same way that Miyazaki has with souls.

Playing demons souls is rough compared to later souls games. Like, i see why more casual players love elden ring compared to DS. There are almost no bonfires or shortcuts, constant skill checks, oppressive atmosphere etc.

Housemarque needs to not make their games easier but a bit more accessible. My biggest problem with Returnal is the permenant upgrades didn’t make you feel more powerful, they need to work on that aspect, or make the runs a bit shorter, or just not do a full on roguelike at all.

if I run up on them and that game is indeed AA, even if its AA and a half...all of them GOING TO JAIL FOR FRAUD!

Maybe they are just saying that to get many to apply or something. I feel the team will make a game that fits their last game in scope or something.

Umm

Every game Housemarque makes has been different than the last…. Nor have they really done sequels. That’s a bit different than from software who mostly just makes the same game over and over again.

I take it you’ve never played a game of theirs before Returnal.

I dont think every game they make from this point on will be wildly different now tha they are doing bigger budget stuff.

I dont think we’ll see the type of variety in things they make without the arcade-like scopes they were given before. Ike i doubt there next game will be as much of a departure from Returnal that nex machina was from resogun.

I 100% except it to be a 3rd person shooter

Days Gone looks good, but calling it GotG?
You really do seem to have very peculiar tastes, friend...
It's just a fun as hell game to me.. love the horde mechanic. There are few games where you get that feeling "this is impossible" (being attacked by even a small horde early in the game) but by the end of the experience you actually develop the skills (and some upgrades of coarse) to take on giant hordes.

And I love the size of the world.. and I loved clearing camps of humans as well... really fun stuff, not just the zombies.. so many camps to clear!

i rate it highly too. not generation good, but for me, it is one of the best Sony's game to date.
I have really fond memories of Days Gone. I remember I ran out of gas at night and I was walking my bike when I got knocked off of it by a bear

At any given time you could see freakers chasing deer, or a mountain lion attacking a freaker, I really liked Days Gone

Is the prevailing rumor and inuendo still that the blood and truth vr team are beavering away on a Getaway revival, or is that debunked "there is no Sly Cooper game in development by anyone right now" style?

the latter:

  • A passion for both making and playing magic-based games where great gameplay is supported with fascinating fantasy world building.

Other points in the same job opening highlights a campaign, side quests, Game as a Service appraoch with years of an ongoing story set up by the lore. Overall it sounds to me like its intended to be a co op game in the vein of Destiny/The Division in a Fantasy setting.
  • Creation of an initial campaign to introduce the world and characters, then ongoing campaign to develop the narrative and introduce new content.
  • Objectives and Story beats for side quests and missions.
  • Development of an intriguing backstory and world lore which sets up years of ongoing story.
  • An excellent understanding of non-linear narrative systems and how to deliver story in an ongoing or GaaS game.

From job descriptions you’d think every sony 1st party studio is making a destiny-like game lol

  • Informative

Definitely don't want to see Housemarque become the next From Software because that means the games they develop will be of no interest to me. And where the hell is my DinoNation??? Give me zombies and aliens but dinosaurs are always forgotten. SMH.

I love Days Gone. My 2019 goty and 5th best game of last gen. Days Gone 2 was my most anticipated sequel for this generation but sadly, that doesn't appear to be happening whatsoever. :(
