Don't bother. Brand new astroturfer. 3 posts in all astroturfing bs.
Are all of you this sensitive to disagreement? Like, this just feels fairly in line for a Gamepass-gimped remake. Any further Chinese engagement is entirely reliant on Steam sales given how price conscious the entire market is, and there's no Switch release, which is the only other actually relevant platform for sales - not like Xbox is going to contribute statistically significant sales here.

They're JRPGs, literally all of them (aside from Pokemon but that behaves less like a regular game and more like a COD title - just something 25 million people or so pick up every time one comes out) - even Final Fantasies tend to have abhorrent sales legs (80~90+% drop after week 1), and require constant sales to move further units from more price conscious consumers. There's really just no way getting around how they behave sales-wise.

Again, unless you're Pokemon, but something that low quality that sells so much without fail has to be the holy grail of every publisher.
it is not genre specific at all. it is a trend for majority of games.

...Not really? JRPGs are legitimately notorious for this. Aside from Pokemon, it doesn't matter what you look at - Final Fantasy, Persona, Tales, whatever - it doesn't matter what they review at or what their word of mouth is - it's a miracle if you can get them under 80% second week drop, and its more likely to trend closer to 90%. Ronin is a good example of something that just released that looks to have solid legs after WoM separate from its metascore is actually beginning to kick in and people realize that it is a solid title actually - I think it had something under a 70% drop in Japan, for example.

Even Mario can't avoid this - Mario RPG dropped over 80 percent in its second week, and that's a brand that can get practically everything else selling forever.

???
I can't speak for the Crew, but literally everything else you mentioned are terrible games. If even something as good as Rebirth can't get you a sales drop under 80% (and that was closer to 90), that's just a sign that the entire genre is frontloaded. (As for redfall, forget 80-90%, that abomination probably had something closer to 99%). Good games in other genres can and do (typically for stuff like shooters, third person action and... Fromsoft, I guess) get smaller sales drops and can sell forever without even the tiniest sale.

we don't speak about if the game is terrible or not.

stay on topic, and read what was discussed.

...Sales legs? Any bad game will have terrible legs unless you've got a Pikachu, Call of Duty, or Sports in the game regardless of genre. Good games in some genres can get great legs, and in JRPGs you practically universally will have poor legs without sales regardless of critical response. This isn't a new observation - this behavior has been known for a long time. It's probably why Final Fantasy is like the only AAA JRPG (unless you're willing to fudge Monster Hunter or Souls into the genre) that actually exists these days.

Souls is def a more proper and vastly superior rpg than the last two decades of Final Fantasy. It should of course be considered. Souls actually has rpg build crafting. Ff16 had nothing of the sort.

Final Fantasy is no longer the headline and mainstream jrpg… souls games are.

And no… it has nothing to do with narrative. RPGs are about the extent of agency over your characters decisions and builds…. Mostly…. Because every game is a rpg now.

So you respond just to respond, not actually understanding the point..
Got it.

Going on sale is fine but dropping to $15 or $20 after 2 months? This is not normal no matter the sales legs. Where is FF7Rebirth at $15?

This sounds like a Sony Too post but with Final Fantasy 🤦‍♂️

Your constant hate on FF16 is tiring and Souls are not Jrpgs. Square was not trying to make a Souls game. Random post just to hate on FF16 in an unrelated thread. Useless.

Souls games are way more of an rpg than modern Final Fantasy games. It has actual player build crafting and meaningful loot. Ff16 does not. And yes… ff16 is a terrible game but that doesn’t matter. You can’t call these jrpgs and act like souls games aren’t… they are far more fitting of what a rpg is. Player agency, actual dungeons etc. Ragnarok is more of an rpg than ff16 is.

Narrative driven does not make it a jrpg.

Sorry, Final Fantasy isn’t the king of jrpgs anymore. From software is.
