@mibu no ookami thinks that it's absolutely worth for Sony to put everything on Steam and cannibalize PS Store and PS consoles/handhelds in the long term future.

You really seem to be struggling with this. It's definitely impacting you on a personal level but only because you frame everything as a fanboy. You've lost nothing. Move on.

It is absolutely perfect business sense for Sony to expand their platform to PC. Their PC launcher and PC sales will grow annually, and it will be consistent operating income over time.

Imagine Sony owned FromSoftware and they didn't put Elden Ring 2 on PC despite the fact that probably more than half the games sales come from PC. How do you think this impacts budgets and future salaries?

This obsession with Sony putting games on PC is childish.

If they were cannibalizing sales, Sony would know it. This is a fact that you seem to not understand.

interesting how consoles are rising in game sales even after the pandemic ended

Sony full predicted a rise in console sales. They were rising before the pandemic. The pandemic just created a short influx of sales and growth that were not sustainable in the short term.

You're out of your mind no one will give a fuck about a Sony launcher.

I hate this disingenuous comparison with a passion tbh, Banana was a free game that you could make actual IRL money off of because it was like cookie clicker, but with inventory items (like NFTs, in this instance) and you could sell them to others.

Most of the people on Banana were running autoclickers with multiple accounts, this was not people playing it actively.
This is the point. Steam has millions of bot accounts that inflates their fake growth

are we really going down the path of calling a number of "players" online, bots? I mean, Steam is not exclusive to this, literally any platform has bots, Xbox, PlayStation. Nintendo, what exactly is "fake growth" and how do you determine what number of "online users" are "fake?"

PC is not struggling at all.

According to Newzoo, who has more credibility than these nobodies I never heard before this article, PC is growing.

"Newzoo’s year in review: the 2023 global games market in numbers" article from December 2023:
The-global-games-market-in-2023-per-segment.png

Their 'The global games market will generate $187.7 billion in 2024' article from August 2024:
Global-games-market-revenues-in-2024-by-segment.png.webp

Both years show PC as the fastest growing platform.

And if we look at Steam CCUs, Steam achieved new all time record peaks during 2023 and 2024.

To get a bigger context, here's the 'controversial' (Switch is counted as console, not as handheld) Pelham Smithers graph (doesn't include 2023 or 2024) inflation adjusted to 2023:

BallMatthew_Jan2024_Gaming_Page_07.png

And the more prestigious than Pelham IDC (graph from September 2023, I think they still haven't published one this year):

https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F5df1bc99-f812-45d3-9ce4-9a6302d8ce5f_1442x1358.png

Note: all these graphs, like the one in the OP are estimates made in different point on time, which in some cases include or not some things. As example Pelham counts Switch inside home consoles and doesn't count Steamdeck. While IDC counts both Switch and Steamdeck as handhelds.

You're out of your mind no one will give a fuck about a Sony launcher.
Riot, Epic, EA, Ubisoft, CD Projekt, etc. are happy and successful with their own launchers.

I never heard of them is not really an argument, and aren't disproving anything.
I never heard of Newzoo before, ever, must be, that they are wrong 😂

This is as dumb as to ask if console sales count sales to scalpers or that PS isn't selling because scalpers are the ones who buy these dozens of millions of consoles.

No, bots don't buy or play games (unless you're including xbots there).

I never heard of them is not really an argument, and aren't disproving anything.

If you go to here you'll see some of other people Newzoo works with: 2K, Nvidia, ESL, T2, MiHoyo, Mixi, WB, Porsche, Activision Blizzard, Wargaming, PUBG Battlegrounds, Team 17, MS or Google. Not listed there there are others like PS or Ubisoft plus other top publishers who quoted Newzoo in some of their fiscal reports or presentations to investors. Same goes with IDC or even the Pelham graph. As far as I know, none of them did it with Aldora.

I've been following many gaming market data charts and fiscal reports from the top companies for over a decade.

Scalpers arent buying consoles now days. And Playstation consoles are still selling. One is a physical thing and one is a software thing.

Totally different to each other

Not surprised that based on Newzoo, Sony made Concord

Sony, like any major publisher, have a giant amount of market intelligence data. Part of it coming from internal metrics and tracked data from their own platform and games -including 3rd party- sold & played there. Part of it coming from key partner retailers. Part of it coming from several market analysis firms like IDC, Newzoo, NPD/Circana, GfK, Media Create, etc. Part of it coming from national gamedev or game publishers trade associations from many countries.

Yes, and what? They also made Astro Bot, Helldivers 2 or Destiny The Final Shape, which are highly successful.

It's stupid to assume a company can only have huge hits and never will have a project that fails.
Can you now ask chatgpt how projects fails and paste here please?
