You don't need to make your platform attractive when you're acquiring large portions of the market to try and drive your competitors out of it.

I don't think that's going to work out for them. When even releases like a new IP from Bethesda fail to move the needle, it's a telling sign about the popularity of a platform.

If it is not homologated by Microsoft it should not work.
I'm not sure why it allowed until now.

Non homologated 3rd-party devices are what people uses most for cheating.

Thanks Sony that PS5 is like that since release in 2020... it is crazy dumb to harm your platform like Microsoft did for 3 years.

The point is that MS allowed for 3rd party controllers from release. Their astroturfers even used that as some sort of argument as to how much more "consumer friendly" MS is. Changing the rules in the middle of the game, after people invested money in 3rd party controllers (with the overwhelming majority of them not being cheaters) is bullshit.

To be honest, the whole cheating aspect seems like a B.S. reason to why they're doing this. A lot of those 3rd party controllers are half the price of the 1st party controllers. This seems more like a play to force people to buy their brand items to make a profit. It's definitely suspicious considering that they chose to do this after ABK deal went through instead of before.

I think there's also the aspect of "unlicensed". This could compel some companies towards a licensing agreement with MS.
