same span of three years. I see varying sources on the matter which leads me to believe that the sales are strong and will lead to 80 million once the console is finished (my own estimate which maybe false but still a good amount regardless and if I'm wrong then wrong I will be :)

I said the switch was miles ahead of the playstation 5, someone said it was last gen I chose to correct that, and now it appears we're console warring.

I don't think having the best graphics are what nintendo is seeking this generation.
PS5 has been out 2 years and 9m. Going by Switch sales for 2Y9M we have 49m sales. PS5 sales for same timeframe is over 40m (and this is actually 1m short of 9m). Considering COVID releated supply issues, it's clear they're selling pretty much 1:1. Likely after SM2 and Christmas this year, with the new supply, it will easily be over 50m. So not sure the 80m estimation, PS5 will easily clear 100m again. You're right about it being the same gen as PS5 however, the Wii U was what competed with the PS4. People just forget that since the Wii U was so bad and Nintendo dropped it so quickly that they started this gen several years ahead of the competitors.

Let's be real tho, the switch is an anomaly because it competes with both ps4/one and ps5/series x despite also being a portable and a home console, so it's a bit of a special case in most discussions.

On topic, everyone besides Nintendo is on a downward trend imo, MS hasn't had the same impact since the 360, Sony's big focus on GaaS and a relatively quiet year coupled with the plus price increase is not a good look. Switch is underpowered as fuck but with a Switch 2 on the horizon, things might change a bit.
This is something I never see people mention. The DS sold over 150m, the Switch's sales numbers don't look that crazy when you realise that. Not to say it hasn't done well though.

Portable console sales are crazy, people really like buying more than one.
(My family and I are on that, 2 psps since my old one died, 2 switches since a lite got joycon drift, funnily enough, only a single ds and a single 3ds)

I said the market is fluctuating and 40 million is not bad but I think by this point the switch will top it overall. According to vgchartz it outsold the wii by a bit.

You’re still comparing them incorrectly. Switch had a 3 year head start in sales. Of course it’s total sales is higher than PS5.

Comparing launch to launch…..PS5 keeps pace with Switch and outsells it.

Currently for 2023 the PS5 is ahead of all platforms.

40M is not bad? Haha. It’s going to pass the PS4 in the next few months. PS5 already passed it in the U.S.-If there was no so called pandemic, PS5 would of set multiple new sales records.

The downplay and spinning some of you do is amazing.

Anyway. This video hits all points perfectly about the current state of the industry, Bethesda, and MS.

DS was also fairly well received by women (I presume the Switch too) which helped make it quite popular. More budget friendly, casual tailored devices open up a larger marketshare. It's simply a different approach with Nintendo (family friendly) which makes direct overlap between customer bases hard. I have a PSV, 3DS, DS, Steam Deck, and a Switch.

I didn't try downplaying the console sales. I think the switch is doing well at the moment it's still competing against the playstation and there's fluctuations in the market.

Yup

Switch is a handheld and NOT a home console. It’s about what… 15 years behind in tech compared current gen.

Switch also sells comparably to DS and GBA. It’s par for the course as far as a Nintendo handheld is concerned.

Nintendo got their ass handed to them so badly they quit the home console business. I don’t deal with this revisionist history garbage … 🤣

Switch is a handheld and NOT a home console.

Not per Nintendo:

The Nintendo Switch – OLED Model and Nintendo Switch systems transform from home console to handheld, letting you play your favorite games at home or on the go. They include a dock for connecting to your TV, as well as removable Joy-Con™ controllers that you can share with a friend for two-player fun.

It's a hybrid console. Why is this important? The Switch captures both Home and Handled console markets, which means their sales numbers are actually not that great when you consider that.

Yea and Nintendo claimed DS was “third pillar” when unsure if the dual screen gimmick would take off. Semantics. It’s a handheld with a tv out.

Nintendo fans will be acting like switch 2 is the first of the next gen of consoles ahead of ps5 etc… while have tech on par with ps4 pro. LOLs

This is wrong on so many levels. First, you're comparing an X86 APU with an ARM SoC. Second, just because the Switch 2 will very likely have similar Flops to a PS4 or PS4 pro, doesn't mean the tech is on par. Third, you're comparing AMD with Nvidia. Fourth, It's very likely that the Switch 2 will be Ampere-based, so its technology will be years ahead of that found in the PS4 and PS4 Pro.

It doesn't necessarily mean it will be able to run games better, though it is very likely it will be a much better piece of hardware than the ones Sony had. it will not compete with a PS5 nor a XBS, of course.

I feel that I have learned a hard lesson from the last forum I posted on and that is: Do not debate an idiot on The internet.

The switch is a 8/9 gen console and is currently competing with the ps5 despite it’s launch two years earlier.

I will not be sitting here debating this obvious fact with someone it is what it is.
I would offer though, that the line for someone being called an idiot, should be at the far end of things. When things are absolutely non-constructive and an understanding can’t be reached.

With respect, I don’t think regarding Switch as a last-gen console in sales is an idiotic take. It’s a bit of bridge console, generationally, and we haven’t had one of those before, so no surprise there’s some confusion and debate about where to place it.

I think the point that was trying to be made is that Switch had 3.75 years to gain a solid lead on PS5, which also launched in the middle of lockdowns, and was supply limited until this year. Not unreasonable. A little spicy, but you were too, lol.

Do not debate an idiot on the internet is solid advice. A second absolutely fantastic quote is, ‘If all you own is a hammer, then everything begins to look like a nail.’

Basically, if in response to a bad experience, you adopt a cynical view of the people you talk with, you might assume the worst of them, in a way that never allows you to experience the best.

What a piece of shit game. All that hype for nothing.

What is there to look forward to for Xbox now? Starfield was suppose to be this huge grand AAA game for Xbox according to MS and their green Nazi army.

It amounted to nothing. Xbox really is low quality bad brand.
Borza Motorsport 8 that they’ll pretend to like.

Xbox isn’t dying, it’s dead. It’s been dead since Phil Spencer took over. RIP to a once decent platform 😔🙏
MS keeps investing in Xbox. They keep on buying shit left and right. MS is still all in, in gaming.

They’re all in on GamePass, not Xbox. Sadly they couldn’t care less about the console. Which is what XBOX originally was, a lot of you guys seem to forget that 🤠

Xbox is their gaming brand. Not just the console 😁
