PS+ Essential is the sweet spot in terms of games quantity. 2-3 games per month is pretty much what someone who plays a lot is able to play

400 games sub services make sense for catalog games that have been discounted numerous times and have reached their sales potential.

Essential drops are a great benefit. If that’s how you consider it. I do… cuz I pay for the online paywall and not the monthly drops.

I hope they don’t change essential anytime soon. It’s a sweet spot like you said… and no risk of these games being delisted if you never get to them like you would on Extra or gamespass. Extra doesn’t seem like much of an upgrade over essential when it’s mostly a trash bin for square and Ubisoft’s turd factories comparatively. The quality of the essential drops are better by far over the updates to extra.

While not true, since you need to stay subbed to play any of the games provided by the service, I consider all those games to be part of my personal backlog and not a sub catalog.

On PC without the requirement for constantly paying for online, Gamepass has zero appeal, at most a reasonable person will pay for a month instead of buying an specific game that would cost more every once in a while. That's why it will always be irrelevant outside Xbox.
Not only that, but there are a million ways to get good free games (not even gaas titles). Cave Story began as a free game, Epic offers free games at least once per week, and you have GoG that offers almost free games as well as humble bundle (not sure it's still good). You also have access to the abandonware for old games.

Obviously some mods are about as complex as some actual games, as an example The Stanley Parable started as a free mod pf Half-Life 2.

That makes zero sense to have this on PC.

Humble bundle sucks compared to what it used to be but there's also amazon prime video where they give PC games alongside the streaming sub. I wish Netflix had something similar instead of pushing for mobile games.

I love how this 2 month old interview is just now being posted around now like it’s new.

Modern day media is nothing but misinformation, clicks, and desperate attempts to put words in mouths of people and come to baseless conclusions.

PS+ essential is the worse unless you are only paying it for the online part. What are the odds that the 3 games you get each months are the ones you'll want to play?

Gamepass target audience seem to overlap on PC with people that already are comfortable pirating on PC anyway. People playing legitimately on PC usually are all in on Steam.

Gamepass specifically is extremely poorly thought through:
- it pushed as the main way to consume games instead of something complementary
- day one games are promoted as the main reason to get it, yet they never got anything consistently going (the service was introduced about 7 years ago)
- indie games were already extremely cheap and devalued
- Games with Gold became a complete joke to push people into lower tiers
- massively reduced appeal on PC due to free online.
- no tier for those interested in cloud streaming, you pay for it even if you have no interest in ever using it

PS+ strikes a much better balance and seems to be much better conceived:
- no constant focus on day one games
- no fixed timeline for Sony games to join the service (this one I'm unsure if it's a good thing or not)
- timed demos that work as an incentive for you to buy the games
- discount if you get it for 12 months
- high quality old games seem to be more valued
- they did not turn Essentials in a complete garbage tier
- they had that 20 games collection early on to work as an incentive for people to move from PS4/Xbox to PS5

imo it's not about balance. there's no getting around that gamepass offers more than ps+ for around the same cost. making game demos a premium is not a feature to celebrate. demos ought to be distributed for free to everyone since they're advertising.

both services are unappealing and the sony ceo is right that most people play one game at a time. subs are not the future of game delivery.

I don't agree with the idea that Gamepass offers more than PS+.

If the Xbox exclusive output was delivering great games on a regular basis (3 or 4 very high quality games per year)... Well we could have that conversation, but as it is all they offer is a back catalog of games + their garbage bin (not even bargain bin) day and date releases.

even if we ignore xbox exclusive games (which there's no reason to do), game pass is still way more aggressive than PS+ in getting new games on the platform. stuff like atomic heart and lies of p launching on gamepass is the norm on GP and a rare incentive on PS+

Of course it doesn't.

Also for the ppl who say obvious or why this news. Everyone does not think the way you do, there are ppl that no matter what they hear come up with their own opinions and beliefs. It's good to reinforcement/and or differing opinions.

By your logic, ps plus not getting any day 1 exclusives is even worse. At least you get 4 exclusives with gamepass, shit or not.

Absolutely. Even having two games going at once is difficult. Who cares about 400 games available on a subscription service - especially when 90% is crap.

Makes sense to just buy the games you want as and when you want them.

The source of this video is a Xbox fanboy saying PS5 games day one on PC.

That’s the only reason this is making the rounds now. It’s 2 months old.
