So with the deal looking likely to pass now, first call of order is Sony definitely needs to can all future Bungie projects on Xbox except Destiny 2 expansions

Then buy Take2, full ownership of From Software and Capcom. Take2 will get some pushback but the precedent is set

So, what does everyone think Sony’s next move ought to be?
A few things we need to look at here:

1. Sony business don't live or die off the success of COD. Yes having COD on the system generated a steady flow of revenue was good and all but I doubt one game will kill the whole system when PlayStation is not know at the COD machine.

2. With Microsoft - we don't know their gameplan on maintaining all of these studios that is gained from the acquisition, if they would keep the same budget for future version and if they have the ability to maintain quality with a budget placed with an idea this would be going into a subscription service. We all know that MS fans will not keep the business afloat if it involves buying enough games to justify a massive budget for future version.

3. With the acquisitions its not guaranteed a retention of talent. Individuals might look at this as a chance to cash out and leave and cause a spinoff of multiple studios headed by talented people who worked on the previous games. All of them open to partner with other consoles to make exclusive games or remain third party.

4. We don't know how the gaming landscape would look in the next 10-20 years, what was hot at one time seems to be non existent today. Some of the highest grossing IPs today didn't even exist 10 years ago.

Sony needs to just keep doing what its doing to keep and maintain the market share (Sony is not going to stop making quality games just because of this deal) while also finding key partners who is willing to be acquired to join their family.

Agreed with all your points. We just don't have enough information overall to make any informed conclusions. As well, personally, I don't have an issue with Sony's strategy pertaining to acquisitions. It works for them and for us too in terms of the games we get.

Would it surprise you though?
Sadly no. Just didn't think that someone would send death threats over games that would still be available to them if the deal fell through
Yeah, it is what it is. Some view this as payback for what happened to the XB1.
Then Xbox management should be punished as they were thr fuck ups. And worst most of the shit is still there.

Bungie has independent control. That's not happening. The regulators were told of the original plan and Bungie publicly stated their intentions. Bungie have proven they will fuck off if fucked over, I don't know why you think it would change now

Activision Blizzard has released a gleeful response in relation to the UK regulators’ softened stance today. “The CMA’s updated provisional findings show an improved understanding of the console gaming market and demonstrate a commitment to supporting players and competition,” it said. “Sony’s campaign to protect its dominance by blocking our merger can't overcome the facts, and Microsoft has already presented effective and enforceable remedies to address each of the CMA's remaining concerns. We know this deal will benefit competition, innovation, and consumers in the UK.”

Eu politicians are dealing with America RE Ukraine war
Uk Politicians are dealing with EU RE Brexit.

MS pays American politicians to offer something to Europe in exchange for passing the deal, provided they do the same to the UK.

EU, US and UK all get something, all they need to do is sign through a silly regulation allowing a company to buy more computer games. (And it will be seen as small fry by the politicians who will bag big wins off of the back of it)

No death threats needed.

Bungie still need to report into Sony. You also assume they are that averse to going exclusive on future games. Market conditions change and Bungie is a Sony company.

They can't fuck off because 1) they would need the capital to buy themselves back 2) Sony would need to be willing to sell them back

This isn't Microsoft making bad decisions or Activision having no control over Bungies decisions

Bungie only went with Sony for independence and funding. Sony get a FPS that cannot leave Sony and they get a company that actual has success with GaaS. Bungie staff are free to leave after 3 years with a handshake. Of course they leave if Sony tried to strongarm them

Maybe not in the short term. But long term who knows, leadership change and as they grow more integrated with Sony things can change.

Sony needs to accept that these little support studio and garage start up studios is no longer the only thing they can do. They need established, recognizable IP. A bargaining chip or 2 should microsoft pull anymore franchises. Thye should be wrapping up a deal with square enix right now, and looking for whats next. instead their on the back foot.
What could they possibly get outside of T2 that would be comparable to cod?
its t2, ea or go home.

Deep down I know that Sony will be fine with or without COD but what's next to go? They can't make everything in-house and still make money.

MS is allowed to choke Sony out of the market. It will take years but they will and that was the whole plan.

Also, the masses are dumb so they might buy an Xbox because of this news even if COD is not leaving for years (if ever).

Well cod cant be replaced thats for sure. They have 10 years i suppose theres that. I think sony would be lucky if they were allowed to get cdpr and a japanese publisher with the way these regulators are so thats a factor as well. If im sony, Id invest a large sum into SE to take them off the table so to speak and buy cdpr outright. Wait for the dust to settle with that and focus on capcom next. I mean thats the best play i can think of and its outrageously expensive either.

Were you there? In the room with them when they signed the deal?

Sorry didn't know we had a Bungie board member on the forum with us

Individuals leaving is not the same as Bungie leaving, I'm sure you know that though.
