Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are not strong enough consoles to run demanding games made in UE5 at 60fps

30fps is not bad, and Rebirth has a 60fps option.
I agree with you in the first point but...
Well Rebirth 60fps mode is really one of the worst 60fps mode a game can have... even after they tried to fix it with patches it continue being bad... it is not just little bad but utter bad.

Rebirth has a performance mode, so this loser is wrong
That is his point... 60fps mode in Rebirth is just that bad.
It is a bad example of how a 60fps mode needs to be done.
Rebirth is only playable in 30fps mode imo (the mode most choose to play it after try 60fps mode... and yes there are gamers that choose to wait the PC version to play in 60fps even after buy the game on PS5).

If you are talking about Nanite and Lumen they were not created to 60fps target at all.
It can reach there in the future but it was targeted to 30fps.

Edit - In UE5 documentation they talk about that and says they will try to reach 60fps in the future.

Since Hellblade 2 was made in UE5, it was to be expected that the game would run on Xbox at 30fps.

I just checked the UE 5.3 documentation and they changed a bit...
Before in UE 5.1 documentation they said only 30fps can be used with Lumen and they are trying to have 60fps in the future.

In UE 5.3 they say that:

  • Cinematic scalability level targets Movie Render Queue.
  • Epic scalability level targets a 30 fps console budget.
  • High scalability level targets a 60 fps console budget.
  • Low and Medium scalability levels disable Lumen features.

So there is a High option for Lumen 60fps but there is catch...

Software Ray Tracing

Software Ray Tracing is the fastest tracing method in Lumen and we recommend it for 60 fps games.

Hardware Ray Tracing

Hardware Ray Tracing provides Lumen with improved quality. We recommend it for games targeting 30 fps on console.

Basically Hardware Ray Tracing Lumen can only be used in 30fps.
In 60fps you are limited to Software Ray Tracing Lumen whatever that means.

So using these we can see that only Epic or Cinematic can use Hardware Ray Tracing Lumen.
High will always use Software Ray Tracing Lumen.

They difference well... using Epic setting (not the High used for 60fps that is even worst in IQ) you already see big differences:

i-know-i-know-lumen-is-only-optional-in-u8-but-hardware-v0-8hvdugho03jb1.jpg

Plus Lumen Hardware Ray Tracing is still way below what you can have with Patch Tracing (full RT).

It can but not on high resolution.
It can if you disabled the UE5 new features...
If you want to use for example Lunem Hardware RT your only option is 30fps.

If you use UE 5.3 like you used UE 4 without the next-gen bells and shines then you will reach 60fps.
But that is not exactly why devs wants to use UE 5.

They want the next-gen WOW factor sold by Epic.

That's why I hope that soon Microsoft and Sony will announce stronger versions of their consoles that will be able to run demanding games made in UE5 at 60 fps.

Looks way better in 30fps 🤷‍♂️
And that is one of the game that has less difference between Fidelity and Performance… only resolution bump.

Others games like Spider-Man the difference is drastic.

So I doubt about it looking perfect… it did have compromises.
Only if you look at screenshots only, or if your eyes are bad. Games look a LOT cleaner at 60fps due to motion clarity

The excuse… you eyes are bad lol

I have a theory that so motion clarity is something related to how some people get motion sickness and others not.

I never had any motion sickness in my life.
So that motion clarity means nothing to me but the graphical (IQ) difference is pretty obvious.

I play 30fps or 60fps games just fine… it just that 30fps looks way better and in most cases not blurry like 60fps modes.

But hey there are bad 30fps modes too.

30 FPS will remain a thing for demanding AAA games. These consoles will hang around until 2028/2030 and have GPUs between 2070 super and 2080. How do you think a 60 FPS mode of a 2027/2028 AAA game would look?

It's better to stick to 30 FPS. Specially since more and more folks will have 4k TVs even 8k!! and sub 1080p resolutions can look pretty bad on those.
Is it worth it to halve the framerrates
for effects that clearly have diminishing returns and no impact on gameplay? That's another question.

Sure, lol. Next you'll tell me that the human eye can't perceive more than 720p 🤣🤣🤣

Maybe on bigger screens. On a 50” 4K screen the performance mode looked fine to me.

I just realized the Gears of war 6 news is to distract from this. Game is DOA.

30 is perfectly fine. Especially for a game like this.
Plague tale 30 was fine
Rebirth 30 was fine
ff16 30 was fine
Dragons Dogma 2 30 was... dog shit but still fine for me. I just finished that game yesterday for ps5.

I think people are used to 60 and 120 this gen because monitors and tvs with 120-144hz are widespread now. It takes 1 evening to go back to 30 if it's not dogshit.
Demons souls 30fps is terrible and laggy. Bloodborne or ff16 30fps modes are very responsive and snappy.
It's all about dead zones, motion blur and not relying too much on just vsync.

Gamers are whiny bitches now who won't even try to play the game.
Even dragons dogma 2, a game that runs terrible.... plays great! I played it, finished it and it played great. not a single crash. 30fps lock helped a lot.
yeah oled makes 30fps a bit tougher but again - you get used to it. It's not as bad as 24fps slow panning shots in movies and after all - motion blur helps like in ff16 or dragons dogma 2
