Most launchers have failed and they’re all jumping to support steam now.

You would think it doesn’t matter much but storefront tribalism exists on a platform that can support them all. Pc players would still rather buy a game full price on steam than sub to windows gamespass for that same game.

So competing against steam doesn’t seem like a wise move at all whatsoever. Rather… embrace it.

My issue is that steam users now will get psn support, cross-save, trophies and voice channels when console users deal with an additional paywall to play online. Plus needs a major rework to fix this. I’d choose to give up the monthly freebies for sure if that was the case.

I don’t see “cross-buy” as a reasonable expectation at all tho. No way Sony, devs, storefronts and hardware makers will be so generous.
I agree. I would rather pay full price on Steam than play the game entirely for free on Epic. Yes, it might sound outlandish and stupid but it is what it is, and I can assure you I'm not the only Steam user who thinks this way

Please... no one wants another launcher, most people on PC gamers wouldn't switch off Steam. Every launcher has been a disaster and they eventually all brought their games to Steam for a reason.
If I could play the first party PlayStation games I already own on PC without having to buy them again for PC, and I would get cross-saving, trophies. and full wireless DualSense support, I would use a separate launcher for that.

Why would they have to drop the console?

Why can't we have both?

I am fifty years of now. I do not want to sit at a PC to play games, nor do I want to pay double or triple the price for a system to do so.

Mention getting rid of consoles again and you will force me to act, don't make me ban @JAHGamer to set an example.

Pelo keep saying that here but...

Ubisoft PC Revenue with Steam:

FY2012-13: €113 million (9% split)
FY2013-14: €151 million (15% split)
FY2014-15: €176 million (12% split)
FY2015-16: €195 million (14% split)
FY2016-17: €263 million (18% split)
FY2017-18: €312 million (17% split)

Ubisoft PC Revenue without Steam:

FY2018-19: €498 million (27% split)
FY2019-20: €415 million (26% split)
FY2020-21: €511million (23% split)
FY2021-22: €553 million (26% split)

Ubisoft PC Revenue when they started to put some titles on Steam again:

FY2022-23: €327 million (18% split)

I want to see data to backup that claim but there is none... all data we see is less revenue and market split when launching on Steam for Ubisoft.
And when they again start to put some games on Steam the first year back to low revenue and split.

The only way I would see any third party publishers getting on this thing is if it was some requirement for future exclusivity deals on specific titles such as the FF VII Rebirth thing. Like "if we moneyhat your game, you need to put it on our PC app and have cross-buy with the PlayStation console store"

I think in the future Sony will have a single PSN store for PS home consoles, (PC) portable consoles, PC, mobile and cloud. Covering the digital versions of all their generations.

If you bought a game digitally once or have it from PS+, you can play it in all platforms natively (if can run it) or via the cloud (any game, not needing to be one of the PS+ Premium games) without having to buy it again in other platform.

Shared friendlist, trophies and progress across all platforms. Free online.

Why doesn't Sony just buy CD Project Red, and then we can have GOG
Because Sony wants to have a good store, with anti-cheat and anti-piracy DRM, plus being the PSN store.

I think the easier way for them is to release at the same time:
  • PS6: BC with PS4 & PS5, now also would have PS3 classics
  • Web based PC PSN store (the same app would also include remote play, the PC launcher and PS cloud gaming): ports of their main PS4 and PS5 games plus PS1/PS2/PS3/PSP Classics
  • Web based mobile PSN store (same app would also feature remote play and PS cloud gaming): Android + iOS
  • PSP6: SteamDeck OLED on steroids PS Portal successor that runs natively all the games available in their PC and mobile PSN stores plus features remote play and PS cloud gaming. Plus OtherOS support if you want to install Windows, SteamOS, Linux or Android
And to make mandatory for any game submitted to be released on any of their 3 PSN stores:
  • Feature cross-save, cross-play and cross-buy across all 3 PSN platforms and PS Cloud gaming
  • To support both PS6 and PSP6 devices to play them there natively
  • People who bought the game there would be able to play it via PS Cloud gaming in PS5, PS6, PSP6, PSVR3, PC, mobile, smart tvs, web browsers if the user has PS+ Premium
  • In case of submitting a PC game that was already available for PS4 or PS5, they won't be required to submit a PS6 SKU due to BC
Unifying all 3, or at least console + PC, PSN would be the biggest platform in revenue and active userbase for PC and console AAA and indie 3rd parties, and via cloud gaming they'd have their game playable anywhere.

In exchange for having a single unit sold in multiple platforms, Sony's cut would be 15% and for big sellers 10% instead of the typical 30%.

And then you have Activision which stated CoD leaving Steam was a "resounding failure" for Activision and now they are fully back on Steam and that happened before the acquisition.

Ubisoft is the odd one out. Left Steam for many years and now they are back on Steam.

I want Sony to launch a PC store that facilitates cross save by default. Ideally, cross-buy as well, but that's not realistic. Make a discount console-PC bundle would be dope.

Fuck, if Sony did this, they'd be a little too dominant.

Hey! Leave the Valve/Steam shills alone! Lol

That's what we call a brown-nosing corporate shill lapdog. You guys are even worst than the console variants. At least most console fanboys are self-aware.
Imagine thinking Steam is just another 'corporate' who is just out for our money. Do you know anything about Gaben? do you even play on Steam or what?

Once another game store becomes as good as them on PC, I will stop simping for Steam

People like Steam and wants to use Steam because everyone else sucks and doesn't invest into PC like Valve.

When Valve took the risk and invested in Steam, Epic called PC "piracy infested" and went back to consoles.

Now Valve is reaping the benefits of that risk.

Epic is already better, but the pc propagandists won’t let you believe that

Epic can't even get the bigger games like Palworld, Helldivers 2, Elden Ring, Baldurs Gate 3, Sons of the Forest, Lethal Company etc. onto their store.

Epic is not a serious store. They are barely functional.
