the new CEO is a money man, he doesn't care about the legacy of the brand, i think it'll only get worse, just look at this, PS games are playable on a variety of hardware devices today, this is just wrong on so many levels... it'll kill playstation hardware

NateDrake, the insider that got all the Xbox ports right, agrees that PC Day 1 killed the consoles sales. He said that today in the Era thread.

When are @Yurinka @mibu no ookami and other PC supporters going to see the light? They would rather use mental gymnastics to explain the drop in hardware when the obvious is right in front of you.

In this Q3/FY24 report that Microsoft CFO Amy Hood stated that they expect Xbox hardware decline to continue year after year ONCE AGAIN. At some point, Satya just need to pull the freaking plug on Xbox hardware. Their growth is in 3rd party publishing. Can't wait for the bigger titles to hit PlayStation.

The idea that PC is a super platform makes a lot of assumptions. PC has been getting console games for decades, it doesn't mean the audience for those games are on PC. It's a myth.

Console games are still ported to PC and sales aren't nearly as high. This is especially true for specific genres like fighting games, JRPG, single person action games, sports games e.t.c.

No one has ANY evidence that PC Day 1 is the reason why Xbox is where they are.

Xbox has been on a decline for years and has yet to put out a real system seller since Halo Reach in 2010. That's 14 years...

If there was evidence Xbox was really being impacted by Day 1, you would see consistent software sales for their titles but just a shift towards PC. That also is not the case.

The reality is GamePass, PC GamePass, and a lack of system sellers are all greater contributing factors than Day 1 PC.

The PC Platform myth is going to be even more exposed when we see the first truly cross-generation console generation between PS5 and PS6. PS4 was hindered by the hardware and the pandemic restricting Sony's ability to produce PS4s due to supply chain.

When Sony can sell games to people on PS5 and PS6 and the combined userbase is above 140 million units, it's going to be the real super platform.

One of the largest advantages PC has had over console is the length of a PC generation.

cyberpunk 2077 phantom liberty for example is playable on a GeForce GTX 1060 which released in 2016. There was no PS4 version of Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty, because the PS4 could barely run the original game and there was a lack of incentive to ensure it played on PS4.

A better sight on management? Japan doesn't have a single trillion-dollar company. The closest is 300 billion... The US has 25 300 billion or higher companies and 6 trillion dollar companies.

Who severely damaged PlayStation in the PS3 era? You mean when Kutaragi told people to get a second job to afford it?

Kaz Hirai oversaw massive failures and a massive decline in Sony Electronics, surpassed by Apple, Samsung, and LG in phones and TV.

Sony failed to understand the market around the MP3 and around flash memory losing out to Apple and Sandisk.

Sony's joint venture of Sony Ericsson was a massive failure.

Sony failed when it came to PlayStation Vue where Hulu and Youtube TV were successful.

Most consoles players won’t migrate to PC.
The part of console users that beneficies with games being released in PC are very small (Sony already showed researches and the user bases doesn’t overlap).

Most of console gamers will continue being console gamers.
And a new user base for PlayStation will be created in PC.

It is different from Xbox that always were overlap with PC.

All that really matters for the rest of the generation is PS5 Pro and GTA6.

Xbox as a brand is dead and everyone knows it, except for some fanboys who are lashing on. Microsoft may try to stay in the hardware business as a more niche high margin manufacturer, but it's not going to matter at the end of the day.

Sony releasing their games on PC day one isn't going to kill PlayStation. Unlike Microsoft with Xbox, Sony didn't fuck up their 2013 launch and have dominated since. Microsoft with or without releasing games on PC day one simply made way too many mistakes to overcome in regards to their console and they just keep making it worse but they don't care about consoles anymore. They only care about making as much revenue and profit as possible. That's it.

Back to Sony, their brand is far more popular and dominant everywhere. Most of all, Sony has the reputation, history and foundation needed to do great in consoles while also expanding but nowhere near the level of Microsoft because they simply don't have to. Also, they don't need to acquire publisher or this or that in order to retain the confidence of their fan base. Sure, you can nitpick about some of the stuff they're doing or not doing but let's be honest, they could literally go into hibernation for a decade and still remain dominant against Microsoft and Xbox.

BTW.

People is not ready to talk yet but Xbox made way more mistakes with Series than Xbox One (and yes I pointed that in 2020 in GAF).

Xbox One launch to mid gen today looks like a champion compared with Series launch to mid gen.

And how do you explain the massive decline this quarter after the PS5 ports were announced? Amy Hood also said they will decline even more next quarter.

MS themselves are saying the console will continue to decline as they port more games but you still think porting games to other platforms (PC, Switch, PS5) has no relevance on the console sales? They would sell the same with or without PC and PS5?
