I mean....fans have been literally begging for a new Banjo-Kazooie for like a decade. They've been completely ignored and Xbox has cratered as a brand. I don't blame Jez for being bitter.
Imagine if Phil and co. had released an Astro Bot-style Banjo-Kazooie refresh as a launch title for the...
He had this little nugget in his write up on the reviews this morning:
"While everyone was hoping that Sony’s Astro Bot would be good, I’m not sure anyone was predicting what’s happened here."
No, Paul, I'm pretty sure *EVERYONE* predicted exactly what happened here.
I think everyone knew from the start this was going to be a home run, but to see these 9/10s, etc start to flood in...amazing. Well done, PlayStation.
To think Phil could have possibly done something similar for Xbox if only he'd listen to fans' calls to revive Banjo-Kazooie years ago.
Yea, silly for sure. Nobody is arguing PS games are going to sell as well or better on PC than they do on PS. That is a strawman. The point is...they are selling. And it's apparently enough copies for Sony to continue on and even double down on this strategy.
This is the correct answer. Shawn Layden himself even said that Sony's AAA development strategy was not sustainable. Law of diminishing returns and all that.
If you listen to the doomers on this board, the PlayStation brand has one foot in the grave. Meanwhile, in real life, it's the most popular console brand/platform in existence.
I maintain that Sony's smartest move thus far has been in their entertainment business, where they didn't try to create yet another streaming service but instead license content directly to Netflix.
>Sony needs a cash cow, because its single player games are costing too much and taking too long to make. The mistake it’s made is trying to force the initiative on a fanbase that’s disconnected after years of being kept in the dark.
This is the problem right here. Sony has typecast...
The economics of gaming are not at all the same as the economics of streaming. And, this quietly ignores the fact that all the minor streamers license content to each other all the time, including Netflix. Netflix just so happens to be in such a dominant market position that they can afford to...
They lost millions on Concord because it was an ill-conceived product from the start. It was doomed from day 1 and should have never been green-lit in its current form.
I agree that the account linking "controversy" was dumb. But Helldivers 2 is still peaking at 10s of thousands of players a...
I agree GAAS was/is a bad strategy. Porting their games is not. Their mandate is to turn a profit and create value for shareholders. Gaming landscape has changed *drastically* in the last 10 years. Closed ecosystems are no longer enough; not in the face of the myriad competition for dollars and...
They are revenue and profit-sighted. PlayStation console install base / market penetration has a finite ceiling that has very likely been reached, so they are seeking additional revenue streams. So that means that PC gamers like me will get to enjoy their games. Top brass and bean counters have...
What a ridiculous take. If PC were so "toxic" and bad for business, then Sony would not continue to port games. Yet, both the number of games ported and the speed with which they are being ported is increasing.
The truth is that Concord was DOA from the very first trailer. Literally *nobody*...
