Yeah, I've heard the sequel is pretty divisive. I've heard people praise it over the first, and others suggest the open world is a detriment, like you have.
I haven't played Banjo and Kazooie before, but it does seem like any new entries would be competing against a lot of other really great platformers if one released in modern times.
I think this is good. I don't have a PS5, so the only time I'm able to play these games is when they eventually port over.
That said, I had pretty mixed feelings about the first spiderman. The combat was not as engaging as the Arkham games, and the lore wasn't quite there to keep me strongly...

I'm interested how this will take place from a practical implementation side of things. Would they be literally re-writing history by revising old review scores, editing the wiki pages, and hacking into forum databases to change the tone of discourse.

I agree this exists to an extent. I'm certainly disappointed when a game I want to play will not be available day 1 on PC. I've still yet to play Alan Wake 2. Not that I have anything explicitly against Epic Games, but I have my entire library invested in Steam at this point, it's a tough ask...
I never played the original Silent Hill 2, but was really impressed by the remake! There were so many times with the audio where I was just like "Wow."
When I started the first playthrough, I just ran into the water and stood there for like 10 minutes, just vibing with the sound of the water.
I just finished SH2 the other day, such a great game imo. The immersive audio is chefs kiss.
