No, the issue with their DRM scheme is that it tried to bolt on the limitations of downloaded content on discs (hence the pr stunt).
Anybody who had paid attention to what they had said until then already knew that Sony didn't go down that road, but there was a lot of "Sony will do whatever MS does" in the forum conversation back then (among other gaslighting regarding the console's performance, provided in digital foundry analysis again).
But also, their console was underpowered, their e3 demos ran on powerful PCs that were hidden behind xbones.
So much deception it hurts.
The “Sony too!” bullshit was really pushed hard by tamed press shills like Patrick Klepek and Adam Sessler among others, which was obviously orchestrated with the Xbox influencer crowd to try to negate the negative PR wave.
It also made a dillhole named Pete Dodd develop a messiah complex when he took credit for his slacktivist hashtag campaign was seen by some, mostly him, suggested Sony had reversed their plans to do the same shit MS was going to do. He launched a shitty gaming site on the back of his raging egomania and it crashed and burned fast.
More like 11/10 and the game doesn't even need to release if it's Chines/Korean vaporware.
Digital already stops used game. MS entire goal was to push people to towards digital games.
The most outrageous things about Xbox wasn't the online check in (Xbox even has it to this day I think to some degree), it was that MS wanted to stop/control the second hand sales market.
It is their choice.
Can you understand now? Whatever some like more Physical or Digital doesn't matter for MS issue with DRM.
I remember a lot of the "neutral press" doing a lot of damage control for ms, some of them like ben Kuchera and is infamous "fart in the wind article" they tried to bring the "Sony will do the same messsage" well we all now the result
The most outrageous thing is that they never needed to do it, it's something that happens with digital anyway. They just looked greedy for no reason.
This is like you meet some girl, you want her and you know she wants you... yet you force yourself on her before you warmed her up properly. The end result is jail instead of just finishing the night with a smile for everyone involved.
Yep, that was the point I'm trying to make. They trowed most of what they had going on in the trash for something that was going to happen regardless anyway.
