It the first one really good or just overhyped? I installed it once due to gamepass but could get myself to play it. Was it a real banger or just "good for an low budget game"?
The story carries the game all the way to the end. The gameplay isn't anything special but it's good and the most fun parts of the game are the rats sections. The human sections are boring.
It's a solid 8/10 game. It's worth it since AA is dead in the industry and I welcome more games like this in the future. Since sony gave this on plus, there's no reason for you not to play it.

When I played the original, I thought it is an Unreal Engine game. Surprisingly, this is their own in-house tech. Very impressive.

Games like The Callisto Protocol are seriously scary, in a way that makes me feel really uncomfortable. A Plague Tale had some very intense parts, was pretty scary and tense, but not to the level of a pure horror game! That said, I had to turn on all the light when playing A Plague Tale to make it through.

I'm the same to be fair, horror games are not for me. I played Resi 2 and completed it, but was scared shitless for half the game.

Starts off well enough, but halfway through it runs out of tricks and becomes a repetitive chore. Has jank but it can be forgiven for an indie.

I’m actually not hyped at all for this after feeling burnt out on the first one. No 10 sec of addictive gameplay you long for again I’m afraid.

But others may disagree.

It looks like the developers made Amicia stronger and more capable, which I like a lot!

More lights? That's such a vague statement.

A deferred rendering engine allows infinite lights because you can do the computation via a 2d framebuffer pass but the caveat is that you don't get shadows from it.

What will be more interesting is to implement more shadow casting lights. That you have to do in a forward renderer (i.e. use a true 3D computation instead of 2D) and is much much more expensive.
