They can make Physical Games if they want doesn't mean stores have to carry them look at Best Buy they got rid of their DVD/BluRay section and rumors are they will also get rid of their physical games section
Scalpers Attempting To Resell PS5 Disc Drives, But Sources Say Don't Worry About Availability
Scalpers are already taking to online stores to make a profit off the PS5 Disc Drive ahead of the release of the PS5 Pro.

All scalpers have done is give sony a headstart to deal with the shortage. Scalpers are taking a huge risk.
Yeah that could happen later on like Sony just recently released a PS5 Slim bundle including 2 controllers instead of 1.
But it's free delivery. That's an excellent deal!1!
Sony has been on this path since the PSP Go days, making the drive optional allows them to see how many people really want it, and are willing to go out of their way to get a drive.
Obviously it also cuts prices and reduces inventory management headaches (imagine, sharing the device between the PS5 slim and Pro, no need for two of each and then to figure out the proper ratios for disc/no disc).
A problem however is that in a couple of years Sony might stop running the service that link drives to consoles, that will make buying used parts pretty hard.
Those are not the only goals. When selling the "premium" console without a drive (and then charging 120€ for it), they are actively pushing for the death of physical media in their consoles which means:
- Full monopoly over distribution of Playstation games, no more physical discs being found cheaper than PSN ever. Just a couple weeks ago I found Astro Bot physical 10€ cheaper on release day than on PSN.
- Full control of who can play Playstation games and how they behave. Say the wrong thing during an online match, get your PSN account banned and lose access to all your digital games. In digital you never buy the games, you only buy the authorization to play them after a PSN check. No PSN authorization, no games.
- Terminating all the 2nd-hand market forever.
- Terminating the possibility to lend games forever.
Making the PS5 Pro digital-only is also pushing for all the high-spenders / whales to start preferring digital distribution over physical.
Funny you'd mention the PSP Go. When it released, it got a massive boycott from retailers.
yeah, that is all of the corpos goal. but we have to resist. until 2024, Physical is massive market for Playstation. that's why we should buy physical as much as possible, because, those fuckers will take our choices and exploit us even more.
Resist digital, buy DD and PCopies. DD already outsold in lots of places and this is just a beggining.
