All Sony has to do to counter this is to make more 1st party AAA releases which is exactly what Jim Ryan said there doing. Most 3rd party IP devs, and publishers are a bit shit. Microsoft can buy every publisher it wont matter they cant spend Sony out of the video game business they wont be able to spend Nintendo out either, they rely on 1st party almost completely and all Sony needs to do is put out sports games and AAA games in every genre. Microsoft certainly wont be able to spend them out.
Definitely.

What I'm wondering now is if they take everything and go fully mobile or they maintain some or all publishing in AAA... console or just PC?

There's so many things they could chose to do, they could go scorched earth on the way out.... it's dangerous.
The business logic is that mobile generates the majority of the game revenue, so if they were a big gaming company with no presence in mobile made sense to buy Minecraft and King to grow in mobile.

And in the future, they'd continue growing mainly on mobile to get a majority of revenue from mobile, because if not they'd be keeping money on the table.

The thing is that their existing customers are mostly from console and PC, so they need to grow there too. ABK was a great option for them because even if in business terms their best acquisition there was King, their existing customer would be happy getting the Activision Blizzard stuff.

If MS would have a normal management, after all these acquisitions they'd generate a closer relationship between all their subsidiaries, making regular meetings between the heads of each department to share knowledge, experience, know how, best practices etc to learn from each other to get the best from each place.

Yup. With Bungie, Firewalk and Housemarque won't miss top tier shooters. Bungie, Firewalk and Haven also have top tier MP pedigree. Bungie and Haven have also have top tier AAA new IP creation pedigree.

I think what Sony has to secure next is to avoid depending on 3rd parties for fighting, JRPG and horror (so if don't acquire Capcom and Square Enix they should poach current or former top tier Capcom and Square Enix talent).

There's non-baseball sports, but I assume won't be possible for them the football and basketball licenses so I'd try to keep EA FC and NBA2K close even if 3rd party.

But other than that, I think they have now all the bases well covered with exceptional 1st & 2nd party stuff and top tier 3rd party bringing the best support in areas not covered by 1st & 2nd party.
