I wish that was new, but some Amiga and Atari ST fans still waging their war!

Mind you, the Genesis and SNES wars are not over and both are made by american companies.

Not sure if this is irony, but both Amiga and Atari were American companies, and the console war you mention was instigated by the North American arms of both companies.

I have browsed the 3D forums every once in a while and I respect quite a few posters, especially those clearly professional within the industry and their incredibly insightful thoughts when it comes to graphics rendering and the related software/hardware technology but it's seemingly impossible for parasocial lunatics to not infest these kind of spaces at some point unless they're some very strong moderation.

Although I will say, even at its worse, the forum was never THAT toxic. I guess the staff is just limited and quite possibly much older than your average forum(due to its age) and they didn't really have it in them to properly address what was rising up.

All in all, it's always a bit of shame when a longstanding forum closes its door.

The forum was great with knowledge in 3D rendering but to be fair lately it was just a bunch of guys spreading misinformation.

The actual tech talk bee come less and less… you had to read a lot of post to see one good… that is why I stopped to visit regularly there since last year.

I've definitely seen people discuss beyond3d posts on gaf so idk why
It used to be a great place for leaks and other deeper technical discussions, you also had people who were actually knowledgeable over there... so the information posted on it ended up all over internet from time to time.

Obviously this was a pretty big forum, so it had its fair share of bumbling idiots.

It's been a hell of a ride. It has reached a stopping point for many reasons, a small part also related to lack of resources to properly maintain. The most prominent reason being the toxic behavior exhibited by so many, where the behavior has not changed in the least and actually gotten worse over the past year.

I do appreciate everyone who has ever put so much into the site, with their time, effort, devotion, and passion over the years. It wouldn't have been possible without them.

Beyond3D is now closed.

Good, just because that dumbass Alex Bataglia is there.

And Xbots are in front of that by great margin

The forum was already pretty much dead, with half a dozen daily posts.

BRiT was a Xbox troll that often abused his mod powers to flamebait and then punish the users answering to it.
To see BRiT whining about toxic behavior is the most ironic thing I've read in 2024.

And yes, ever since Alex "PS5-is-weaker-than-RTX2060" from DigitalFoundry started posting there the place became a Nvidia adoration site, with stupid stuff like Nvidia Russia employees going there just to shitpost on the competition.
One of the latest discussions on B3D is how their users were claiming Nvidia should charge any money they want from their graphics cards because Nvidia invented PC gaming.
Yes, they were claiming a 30 year-old company invented a 40 year-old business, unironically.

They'd already been on a ban spree for some time to "cleanse the forum" from industry outsiders in the hopes that the insiders would come back (which they never did). One mod that disappeared for like 3 years, Shifty Geezer, was saying this openly after coming back.
The mod team was a shitshow, it had like 50 moderators that didn't even know the thing existed. They were engineers employed at GPU companies who went there once and instantly got mod privileges. And then the admins refused to reinvigorate the mod team for a decade so the place only had BRiT, the Xbox troll, as the only mod present in years.

So no, B3D didn't die because "its users were toxic", nor did it die because of lack of resources.
It died because of mismanagement and letting fanboys run the place.

Well, if what you say is accurate, then it was toxic behaviour that killed the forum, the thing is that the toxic behaviour came from a mod that's an Xbox fanatic.

End of an Era.

As a passive viewer I noticed an increasing odour of PC elitism. Funny thing, nothing genuinely justified, all fanboy bias - not something a tech site can sustain.
