The forum was already pretty much dead, with half a dozen daily posts.
BRiT was a Xbox troll that often abused his mod powers to flamebait and then punish the users answering to it.
To see BRiT whining about toxic behavior is the most ironic thing I've read in 2024.
And yes, ever since Alex "PS5-is-weaker-than-RTX2060" from DigitalFoundry started posting there the place became a Nvidia adoration site, with stupid stuff like Nvidia Russia employees going there just to shitpost on the competition.
One of the latest discussions on B3D is how their users were claiming Nvidia should charge any money they want from their graphics cards because Nvidia invented PC gaming.
Yes, they were claiming a 30 year-old company invented a 40 year-old business, unironically.
They'd already been on a ban spree for some time to "cleanse the forum" from industry outsiders in the hopes that the insiders would come back (which they never did). One mod that disappeared for like 3 years, Shifty Geezer, was saying this openly after coming back.
The mod team was a shitshow, it had like 50 moderators that didn't even know the thing existed. They were engineers employed at GPU companies who went there once and instantly got mod privileges. And then the admins refused to reinvigorate the mod team for a decade so the place only had BRiT, the Xbox troll, as the only mod present in years.
So no, B3D didn't die because "its users were toxic", nor did it die because of lack of resources.
It died because of mismanagement and letting fanboys run the place.
