Honestly I am pleasantly surprised how stable PS5 sales are... March will be the true test for this quarter. But they've done well in North America this gen... If they don't crack 40 million this gen, they messed up big time.

Permanent price cut whenever they can will do wonders. I figure they are waiting for Pro announcement and will then drop price close to release. Ps4pro released at same price as initial PS4 by tht point PS4 got the price cut.

yeah I don't see them cutting the price till this Fall. They should team up with GameStop and do trade-ins over the summer though and get a bit aggressive with bundles for now.

This is probably due to the lack of price increase in the US(and Xbox being what it is).

In Europe I know but also in US and Japan? And obviously I mean a permanent price cut.

Probably infeasible in Japan.
Just google the current Yen vs USD exchange rate, we're now down at 1990 levels.

But I guess we'll see what happens in the fall(?)

Yes to some extent but even so sales are even much higher in January - Feb this year than they were after March - October of last year... I just find it very impressive for them or maybe PS4 owners are converting over a bit faster since last November

  • Helldivers II best-selling premium 2024 game in USA
  • Helldivers II launch month dollar sales represent the 7th highest total ever achieved by a Sony published title in the U.S. (excludes add-on content)
  • "Nearly 60%" of Helldivers II sales in Feb came from Steam
  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth top 2 February game, top 4th best-selling game of 2024 YTD. Also Final Fantasy VII Remake & Rebirth Twin Pack, placing 8th in February and at #16 for the year

The Helldivers 2 data is pretty insane considering February is a short month and typically a low sales month. We also have to consider that unlike most Sony games Helldivers 2 featured add-on content at launch being a GaaS. So who knows, maybe adding add-ons it's Sony's top 5 launch.

Like this ?

Was PS5 discounted in USA during during these months? If it's the case, maybe the console moved the same units or even more than in 2023 but made less dollars?

Whose estimates are these?

Is it true you have to pay Circana for the official numbers?

They stopped giving unit number sales many, many years ago. I imagine the big pubs and investors pay for the market research and some more solid numbers.

Yeap but you are partner (pay for the subscription) you have the full data with units sales.
Just the public released stopped due not investors but Publishers asking to not be disclosed.

These Publisher only accepted to give Circana (NPD) their data after they changed to non-public release numbers.

Nobody can take of my mind that Microsoft was one of the biggest publishers to ask to not disclose sales numbers anymore due Xbox One.
Remember that Sony did the same with Vita.

That policy started in 2010 and Xbox was publishing their numbers every month after that. The speculation from members back then was Sony being the one to ask that hardware stopped being disclosed outside of publisher PR.

Xbox were also giving out numbers for XB1 up to June 2014 while Sony just gave generic PR. It was for sure not Xbox that pushed for the crackdown on hardware PR.

Am I interpreting that correctly in that launch month alone for Helldivers 2 places it at #7 for all-time (lifetime) revenue in the US for a Sony title?
