Steam is already the defacto PC gaming platform & with it getting both Xbox & PS games while also having PC exclusive & there own Steam first party exclusive I wouldn’t put it past Valve becoming the defacto gaming platform across all forms (PC, Console/Mobile & VR) everything you need in gaming is already under Valve/Steam

Steam will literally be the biggest gaming storefront on the planet, specially if they continue to expand SteamOS to other devices, once Dell, Lenovo and Asus start manufacturing console like pre-built PCs in a convenient format and with the SteamOS in it... it's over. Sony is digging their own grave for literally pennies on PC.

IMO if PS wants to expand the PS ip it is better to do it with cross media like Nintendo or Sega been doing w Sonic.

Instead of porting GOW ragnarok to PC diminishing & damaging the PS platform/storefront & ecosystem Sony should instead create a GOW anime, GOW tv show & GOW movie that would bring in a bigger audience those likely being a higher percentage of new potential consumers that don’t know about GOW where cross media expansion w PS ip like PS production don’t diminish the platform or bolster your competitors platform, storefront & hardware.

It’s very short sighted. With only Nintendo doing what I’m saying. You won’t ever see Mario or Pokemon mainline on PC or any other direct competing platforms but you will see Nintendo make cross media & use there up for parks to promote merchandise that will expand the ip without diminishing the Nintendo platform or storefront.

Also there’s PC that are in the form facto of a console. Steamdeck is a machine with many options unlike traditional consoles. Also Steamdeck can play Xbox & PS games + PC exclusive games & Steam first party exclusive.

You do realize Steam Deck sale's are crap, that thing is probably not even at 3 million. Also buying a Steam Deck in 2024 is a huge risk, you're at risk of not being able to run many new releases. None of the PlayStation PC ports will run on Steam Deck and that's just 1 example. No Black Myth Wukong, no Space Marines 2. I could go on and on.

When you play on console you never go to the issues of Steam Deck or PC at all.
They are not even close to be similar.

PC users tries to say PC are like console but that is the biggest bullshit they created to fell better.

It is fine to like PC for gaming and it is can be an great machine for that.
But that is all... the moment you start to say PC or even Steam Deck is like console you basically lose any credibility point.

Anybody that used Switch and Steam Deck will tell you they are not close experiences at all.
Anybody that used PS5 and Steam Deck or a PC like console will tell you they are close in experience at all.

It is like PC guys saying you can use a Monitor instead a TV in your living room and it will be the same.
Bullshit... the interface is different, the standards are different, the setup, remote controller, everything is different with a TV.
It way more consumer friendly than any monitor in the market.
Plus it is way more easy to setup a TV with living room devices than a monitor.

True but I still believe there is some nuance to be discussed here... Consoles must expand and some real exclusives are in my opinion necessary, even essential to result in healthy growth.

Those handheld PCs with steam OS are gonna compete with consoles. Actually once xbox is 100% out of the equation ( which is very near) we will start to see SteamDeck boxes under 4K tvs in the living room.
Consoles are not going away but traditional boxes will have a hard time if they don't offer unique experiences with real exclusives.

The Steam Deck is niche. It only sold like 3-5 million units and mainly targets PC gamers who want a portable option for their Steam library.

I think people forget that steam only generated 9 billion in revenue despite thousands more games, and billions of devices. The average pc person is not spending a whole lot on software and if that is all that remains, the literal gaming industry crash will definitely happen. Look at some of the common single player games there. 40k-50k for big games cannot support game development
