I dunno about Gaijin but they've had you as a "foreigner" in both Revelations and 3, and the Viking one too if you count the large portion that occurs outside of Norway.

Yasuke is an interesting choice as protagonist, but he's a bad choice as a member of the Assassin's Creed,
Naoe makes sense as a Shinobi, she's a common villager and most people wouldn't think of her as an assassin let alone as a capable fighter.
Meanwhile Yasuke was the only Black Person in the entirety of Japan in Edo period, he's like the worst possible choice of an assassin you could ever pick, as soon as the portuguese came with him to Osaka the entire city found out about him in the span of a couple days, that's how Nobunaga hired him. He has the same energy as a chinese dinasty warrior in Europe in the european middle ages, you would be unable to walk around unoticed.

Cultural appropriation is woke bs. AC starting an African in feudal Japan is in poor taste any way you cut it. Devs have the freedom to do whatever, and consumers the freedom to not like it.
