Love or hate Jaffe, and he has said and done some stupid shit, he’s not wrong about this, and smarter people than him have been saying it for quite some time.

Let’s take Hollywood, which has a similar problem with budgets. Do any of the big companies release nothing but ultra risky blockbusters? Or do they have a whole project line at different scales from blockbusters all the way down to safe rom com?

Bringing a variety of products at a variety of budgets is also good for creativity. Sometimes creativity can’t thrive in a 300 million dollar make or break franchise entry, but it can thrive in a smaller project, which can blow up and become the next blockbuster.

Based on the leaked documents, Insomniac is at least considering smaller-scale games in between big releases. Maybe Sony's other studios will start doing the same thing as well.

Ideally maybe Sony grows each of their studios to 2 teams each. One team does big AAA projects while the other does smaller, sometimes more experimental and lower budget projects to fill out their library and lessen drought periods.
