That's because you're entirely focused on your own world view.
Here are the realities of today
- The vast majority of people don't buy consoles for exclusives
- When games are exclusive they largely only result in lost revenue
- Games are taking longer to develop and becoming extremely expensive and there are diminishing returns for single player games in terms of sustained revenue
- Releasing games across platforms can make your brand more successful and more popular
- See Helldivers as an example, but also success on single player games like Spider-Man, God of War, and Ghost of Tsushima
- Increasing your revenue can allow you to create a better place to play
A modern platform holder shoots to make their platform the best place to play games not the only place to play specific games.
Sony had their most successful first party output starting in 2013 and this did not significantly grow their TAM. Those games are significantly more expensive to develop now in 2024.
There is significant revenue to be had putting your games on other platforms without reducing TAM.
How do we know this? Because Sony is still sitting high on MAUs.
You continue to fail to understand that the paradigm has changed, but if you were right, we'd see a significant decline in MAUs. Not a single doomer has been able to explain to me why we haven't seen that.
