The sales data shows themselves.

- Lower first shipment without updates after 2 months (they are still selling first shipment).
- Publisher worldwide price cut up to 29% to move inventory.
- Basically out of sales chart across Europe with numbers below previous entries.
- No legs and big decline in Japan.
- NPD data being “fine” with the title below Dead Insland 2 that likely around 1 milliok
In US.

But people keep believing agains facts 🤷‍♂️
You've had a weird vendetta against this game the past couple of months, lol.

As always PCMR reporting in to save the day. A good port will provide square with the sales they are looking for.

Square has to go back to basics next time. Look at baldurs gate. No more character action rpg hybrid. Just a damn fine golden age RPG. Pre rendered backgrounds great characters, turn based. Great story, with charm but a twist ,ore mature without falling in the stereotypes of "power of friendship" and so on and so forth.

This news would be more believable if it wasn’t only coming from or being shared by Xbox fantics with an axe to grind. With that said the legs of ff16 do not seem great. I think this should be a wake up call for Sony that yes their Buddy could use some financial backing, and is maybe ripe for an acquisition. Sony just assuming the market will always revolve around them while mass consolidation happens is extremely short sighted and i would hate to see SE get swallowed up by MS or tencent because they made a few bad deals with Sony.

it dosen't matter what someone thinks about it. But what I think is undeniable is that this game is another divisive game in the series.

I think that is the point.

I think it goes beyond backing. SE's management is as bad as MS's. The article talks about that:

From various discussions with executives and others, it appears that producers may have excessive authority. In today's publicly traded companies, it's common to have a separation of powers between execution and financial management. This separation is commonly referred to as "governance." It's considered undesirable for one person to handle both execution and budget management. Even in corporations, the separation of CEO and CFO roles exists for this reason. In the future, there may be a need to establish organizational structures that are better suited for large-scale development.

I dunno if Sony is willing to deal with that kind of shit right now. They need to figure out their current GaaS pipeline first, instead of losing focus by babysitting and awful publisher.

FFXVI's legs are atrocious and i don't see any light in Yoshi-P 18 months strategy. It was on 20th position in its second month of release in Europe and selling below 2k copies weekly in Japan.
if i remember correctly, even Pikimin 4 sold better.

It's just another Bloomberg fake news article with lies about Sony.

FFXVI launch has been very successful specially considering it only launched in a single console that as of now it only has 40M consoles in the market because it's relatively new.
The game definitely underperformed lol. Anyone who wasn't high on the copium koolaid, which were many on this very forum saw it coming. Initial sales were always gonna be decent to good.

This is a sign of a team simply not understanding the mainland brand.

I'm confused what the "organizational changes" are going to be. Because they've already cut their internal units back to a core 4, and XVI was itself given to this team because they built a more successful product (A Realm Reborn and XIV support) than the XV team. And that XV is now neck deep in FFVIIR2, which will itself seemingly need a sequel to be complete. And it can't be the DQ team because they are about 60 to 80 percent of the way through the next DQ. So what changes are there then? And furthermore, they're already cutting back on publishing mid-level games after last year's batch of AA throwback RPGs flopped.

I just don't get what they are going to learn from this. Next time don't release the game in a once in a decade year of great games? Make the game more like traditional Final Fantasy, a series which has always had radical shifts in game mechanics between entries? Be more woke, but not like Forespoken, a different type of woke? Sigh, maybe its "be more like what Japan wants" but if thats the case then, after having failed to be Monster Hunter are they going to be Minecraft next, or Apex?
