Is there any objective and clear indicator pointing to Jim Ryan and/or Hermen Hulst being incompetent at his job?

For the people saying "State of Play events are underwhelming", were these ever any indicator of hardware and/or software sales numbers, software tie ratios, brand recognition or any other meaningful metric?

Why would people be mad at Hermen Hulst? Is Playstation's 1st party output lacking to some?

Judging by the gran turismo movie reviews, tlou hbo show being a horrible version of the game, and the first party content drought of 2023 through 2024, yes they're off to a pretty bad start. Cross gen games have been carrying the brand until this point

Eh?

Why are even including Movies and TV shows?

Uncharted movie was a hit.

TLOU series was a hit.

Twisted Metal was surprisingly good.

Gran Turismo reviews are decent so far.

Fair and valid criticism =/= crying. Any real long time PlayStation fan was disappointed by that awful showcase
To keep parroting lies that have been factually debunked many times =/= fair and valid criticism

Valid criticism is to say you didn't like the announcements -or at least some of them- of a showcase, or to say you don't like them to invest hard to grow in certain areas (even if you know they need to find new revenue sources) as could be shooters, MP, PC or GaaS.

But to spam lies isn't valid criticism, specially when knowing that they are lies already debunked many times. That's just to spread lies, fake and fud.

Stuff like saying they are incompetent when they are breaking many records, to say they have no games when they release way more big exclusives than the compeition, have many of them announced and grew all their teams to make more games at the same time than ever before, and spent more money to sign 2nd/3rd party deals than ever. Or other stupid things like saying they did shut down Japan Studio when the reality is that they restructured and refounded it after branching out their 2nd party team following what they already did before with the 2nd party teams from EU or US.

Lovely thread. Setting the table by OP was the best thing he's done since he arrived to this forum. Progress.

The answer is complex, complicated, and covers a variety of topics. It simply can't be boiled down to a generalized take on a couple paragraphs.

PlayStation is currently 5-0. 4 wins by KO, 1 win by judge decision (which I do not agree with, and consider it a loss - PS3). Like any boxing champ, he's good, but he's not perfect. Championship bout for PS6 is coming, and all the decisions that lead to the conditioning for that fight will have an effect on how that fight plays out. Naturally, like any fight, the quality of the challenger(s), as opposed to the champ himself will tell a lot in the story of the outcome. I'm of the opinion that the champ is not setting himself up with the right approach and mindset nor the level of training, and seriousness required for the challenges and challengers ahead. He is still the champ tho.... and like any champ, followers are bound to push for him, cheer for him, argue for his camp and chances, show faith etc... until he gets KO'ed. Betting on the champ and riding the cocktails is always easy for the layman.
