Does no one find it concerning that PS5 sales are struggling to keep up with the nearly 8 year old Nintendo Switch?

Will the Switch outsell the PS5 this holiday season?

That's because gaming as we know it is dying.
Kids play roblox and fortninte on their laptops. Or minecraft at best.
No kid wants a ps5. All kids want roblox and five nights at freddies.
At best they also want oculus and switch for some of them mario.
When they reach middle school is when they want a PS5, simply from observing kids in my family and my friends kids and my own. I've noticed this. It's due to complexity, COD, Madden, and NBA 2K are just too complex for these kids and they dont get into those games until thoer older now. GTA6 on the other hand will be a different story. Pare its everywhere going to gave to grab their kid a PS5 for that game😄

Incorrect. Gen Z and Alpha prefer consoles to PCs.

For that difference in price. No.
Switch is on impulse buy territory. Even if you regret buying it doesn’t hurt as much as ps5

PS5 sales have completely cratered, last quarter the PS5 "shipped" 2.4m units, while the Switch sold 2.1m units. These are official figures from the earnings reports of both companies.

In the month of September, the PS5 sold about 1m units worldwide and the Switch sold about 800k. A nearly 8 year old console, on its last leg, is selling 80% as well as the current gen "hot console", does no one find that even a little bit pathetic? I do. And that's with several big game releases to bolster the PS5 while Switch had pretty much nothing.

There's a very real chance that that the Switch can outsell the PS5 this holiday season, and I predict that will happen. If that does happen, then..... I don't even need to say it.

And please don't use the excuse, "Switch is only $300, PS5 is $500".... the Switch is almost 8 years old and PS5 is only 4 years old. It has never been discounted once and is still outpacing any Sony console ever made. The PS4 in it's last year was $199 and could barely sell 6m YTD, let alone 1m a month.

Sony and their fans will never admit it, but deep down they know the truth because they're all saying the same thing, "GTA 6 will boost PS5 sales". Both Sony and their fans are praying for 1 game to be their savior. This is really sad, and how does Sony respond to these plummeting sales? By announcing one of their only exclusives is getting ported to PC, on it's 1 year anniversary where fans were expecting DLC no less.....oh and their last game of the year, Lego Horizon, is also coming to Switch/PC DAY ONE. Wow.

It's like Sony has completely given up on console sales, just like how Xbox has given up. Which is why I said that Sony have positioned themselves as the new Xbox:

Let me know what you think. If you'll respond, please answer these 2 questions as well as the poll. Thank you.

1. Do you find it pathetic or at least concerning that the PS5 can barely keep up with an almost 8 year old console?
2. Do you think the PS5 will outsell the Switch this holiday season?

Well when Nintendo is realizing a minimum of 5+ Nintendo games & there actually full permanent exclusive & your console is being sold at $300 you can sell 150+ million unlike PS who has followed Xbox footstep they’ve done nothing but diminish, harm, suppressed the PS platform, storefront & hardware since 2020. In the other hand Nintendo will s double downing on first party Nintendo games exclusive to Nintendo I can see Switch 2 selling 175+ million to 200 million if they keep price at $300 but likely will be $400 now after the success of Switch consumer are more willing to fully invest in Nintendo console especially as it gets more 3rd party making the Nintendo console a viable way to play 3rd party where Xbox & PS both have no exclusive Nintendo console & PC/Steam are great, easy & cheap replacement for Xbox/PS

You’re 100% right, the Switch is still selling amazingly well because of its massive back catalog of true exclusives. Something the PS5 just doesn’t have since nearly the entire library is on PC and PS4. It’s crazy that Sony and their apologists believe exclusive games lose their value after only a year or 2.
Fully agree. It’s crazy that PS port exclusive games to PC so quick under 2 year. A lot of people let exclusive game build thru the gen & then buy a next gen console mid lifespan & buy all of those exclusive games on discount, that’s something I did w PS3.

It’s like Sony/PS leadership are only looking at the first year of sales for exclusive games when in releasing many people wait for the library to build which is likely why 50% of PS playerbase is still on PS4 I’d argue because of the PC port & PS5 not building a library of exclusive games a PS4 player is likely to not convert to PS5 or go to PC/Steamdeck where they can get PS games since they have no isssue waiting for PS PC port & play there singleplayer & live service games on PC negatively impacting PS subscription, mtx & game sells long term.

I know me as a long PS fan is looking at migrating fully to PC/Steamdeck & easily wait 1 year for PS games to be ported on PC anyways since PS doesn’t seem to value or build exclusive games to its platform. And on PC I can save more money then what o would if I stayed on PS in the long term.

PS is making a grave mistake & you’ll see the damage on PS6 & thru the Switch 2 lifespan when Switch 2 gets all 3rd party major game day n date & if not day 1 within the first 6-12 month. Nintendo double downing on its exclusives while looking at other area to expand ip to funnel everything into Nintendo consoles ie cross media, parks, merchandise/toys, collabs etc

Bruh Herman and co stopped caring so why should we bother lol, they are putting all their eggs into the games influenced by Cuckmann and co in california. 1-2 bombs from ND and SSM and this whole house of cards falls down. The company abandoned its roots and no one is ever successful after abandoning their roots, 5-10 yrs the playstation will go the way of the walkman and this time it will be due to self sabotage
& unlike the PS3 era because PS games are on PC, PC players that being fully PC player or PS players exploring PC are building a PS library on PC & Steamdeck & those 2 platform + Nintendo easily replace the PS console if it ever stumbles. Just look how Steam completely replace windows gaming storefront, Xbox etc never underestimate Valve/Steam & Nintendo.

You can even see Apple get into handhelds & but publishers to build an Apple type console/handheld fusion the App Store & Apple VR. PS should not be adding any risk/diminishment that they have been adding the past 4 years

It will sell more than Switch but that shouldn't be the bar.

This is a conscious decision from Sony, they have prioritized profits above all else, even if it means sales erosion and negative long-term growth imo
I don’t think PS5 will sell anywhere near Switch. I think the long tail of PS5 is where you will see the PC port diminishment. Idk if they’ll sell over PS4. They should sell over PS4 after the success of PS4 they should’ve double down on exclusives but they haven’t & over 50% PS players still on PS4 going towards its 5th year is not good. They’ll likely be saved by GTA6 but if there wasn’t GTA6 it wouldn’t be looking good imo

I agree with the OP, sad he was banned 🥹

It is worrying how PS5s are selling so low when gaming is bigger than ever. Sony wants you to buy their games on Steam instead of buying their generic box. Just do that.

I stopped reading after this nonsense.
Is it really nonsense?

Xbox is day n date across console & PC, has no true exclusive

PS is day n date on all multiplayer across console & PC & 50/50 w some singleplayer across console, PC & maybe even Nintendo (Lego Horizon), has no true permanent exclusive

Both platform are loosing exclusivity deals w publisher/studios pushing more multiplat. In the case of PS they will loose Final Fantasy, Yakuza & Persona exclusivity & games that would skip Nintendo that are notable w PS ie fromsoft, capcom (resident evil, street fighter etc) square enix, sega, activision, ea etc will most certainly releases major key games on switch 2 day n date & if not day 1 Nintendo bought a port studio not to port Nintendo games onto competitors platform ie PC or PS but to instead help port 3rd party games likely on PC, Mobile & PS onto Switch 2 bolstering the Nintendo platform & storefront while devaluing PS platform & storefront.

Steam is more alike to Nintendo then PS & at one point Valve/Steam was a 3rd party indie developer. Valve will likely double down on there platform now that they have both Xbox & PS games as they continue to grow both there steam storefront & valve/steam own console w the Steamdeck

I also don't think markets like China are going to be a massive boon to PS5 as some believe, because as long games like BMW are Day 1 on PC, a market whose gaming audience overwhelmingly favors PC, will just go PC for those games. Plus how many more BMWs are SIE expecting over the next four years?
I can see Switch 2 being a big boom in chine with both its handheld/mobile nature & it having AAA 3rd party day 1 + Nintendo iconic & legendary exclusive games both china & India should see major growth for Nintendo imo

PS best chance to get close to 150+ million is stopping PC port. Force developers that release on PS & PC to have stuff like early access being PC/Steam exclusivity being parried. Becoming more relax on the Ps storefront & allowing devs to make games on PS easier like Steam which had lead to many PC game being exclusive to Steam is Lethal Company, Pubg, Rust etc PS needs to lower the barrier. Creating a native PS5 handheld for $400 maybe make it where it only have 150gb instead of 500gb to lower cost & make PS5 bundle for $300 only featuring the PS5 console & 150gb players can barrow a controller, buy or use PS4 controller to lower entry as low as the Nintendo Switch 1 there’s no need to bundle PS5 dual sense controller when the controller is compatible w PC making it not as essential to PS5 allow PS4 controller to connect (not sure if PS4 controller can be used on PS5) double down on exclusive & consolidate buy capcom, square enix secure the future of these games not only being available on PS but receive exclusive games using these franchise buy arc system work, kadokawa/fromsoft?, hoyoverse for mobile? PS lacks in first party output & lacks diverse ip to expand to live service whether it’s on console, pc or mobile. Or use Sony ip such as the boys or demon slayer & make exclusive games using your own franchise. Look into reviving beloved franchise w massive potential in both singleplayer & multilayer how has inFAMOUS gone mia for so long when the last game sold 10 million & people didn’t even like that game compared to the originals where’s sly & jak & daxter why is ratchet & clank not a annualized franchise like sonic? I can keep going

However, it'd appear a majority of the deserting Xbox customer base, have chosen to turn to PC instead, which would explain the increase in Steam growth specifically (and other things like PC"s market share growth in Japan) while PS5 has remained virtually stagnant with PS4 and is now trailing them behind by some 2 million globally. IMO, if SIE didn't go for the easy bait, and didn't self-sabotage vested interests in their console, PS5 would've been able to maintain the pent-up demand it had during lockdowns longer and would be at least slightly ahead of PS4 globally when launch-aligned. Especially, again, considering the fallout that's happened with Xbox this gen.
I feel like what we are seeing w Xbox is what will see with PS especially in the last years of PS5 with a ton of PS gamers migrating to PC/Steamdeck if PS continues this path.

The fact that after the PS4 gen especially in 2017,2018,2019 & 2020 PS5 is lacking behind PS4 gen in the first 4 years shows a lack in exclusive games driving existing PS gamers & potential gamers both new & on Xbox, Nintendo & PC to get a PS5 to play PS5 games but there’s just no desire when the exclusive games that would drive PS5 such as GOW ragnarok & Spider-Man are released on PC working 1-2 years why would a PS4 migrate to PS5 there more likely to migrate to PC or even Steamdeck. It’s pretty crazy to see PS follow Xbox route after seeing how Xbox route completely killed Xbox & there business. The market share Nintendo is about to steal from Xbox & PS will be nasty when they get all 3rd party + release mainline Pokemon, Zelda, Mario/Kart/Party, Smash & Splattoon + more all Nintendo has to do is make AAA rated M games & PS would truly be in a death spiral

Why are people being banned in a forum site that is supposed to promote different perspectives/conversation through discussion?

This is how Xbox & the Xbox community got to a place where there in a death spiral

their studios are heavly promoting Steam Deck
Not just promoting but releasing exclusive themes that’s not available on PS5 or PS4. How you promote TLOU in TLOU day by promoting Steamdeck when 99% of your community is on PS & somehow PS players get nothing? Disgraceful, that’s like Mobile players having exclusive themes background on mobile only but not on Nintendo Switch

Meanwhile in reality*, PlayStation continues to outsell the combined Xbox and Switch sales month in, month out.

*Japan is a total anomaly of a market and is propping the aging switch up
You know PS has diminish when we have to compare Xbox a dying if not completely collapse hardware platform & Nintendo Switch that’s literally in the last year before the Switch 2 where Switch 1 is still giving PS5 in its 4 year a run for its money. It won’t get any better w PS6 as now all gamers both hardcore & casuals know PS games aren’t exclusive & will be ported to PC & Steamdeck 2 platform that competes w PS

Incorrect. Gen Z and Alpha prefer consoles to PCs.
That is not what I saw…
The only research I found shows:
  • Younger Gen Z: A 2021 survey found that younger Gen Z gamers prefer consoles more than older Gen Z gamers. The Nintendo Switch is particularly popular with younger audiences.
  • Older Gen Z: A 2021 survey found that older Gen Z gamers prefer PCs
If you take Switch is not exactly a console then you have that younger gen Z prefer more portables and old gen Z prefer PC.

Overall Gen Z prefer less console than Millenials.
