I expected next gen only games that made use of the hardware like we were getting with PS4 with stuff like... Infamous, DriveClub, The Order, Uncharted 4, Bloodborne.

To each its own I guess. To me, PS5 is trumping PS4 content-wise by a large margin. That includes way more wow moments, like fast travel on SM2, to name just one.

I already said this, it's fulfilling a non-existent hole in the market. Yes there is a place for enthusiast class or higher end computational hardware but it needs to serve a necessitive function.

This isn't the same scenario that brought about the creation of the PlayStation 4 Pro and the Xbox One X. There was a legitimate need for a console that could produce 4K capable rendering for the transitory stage from 1080p to 4K TVs.

I can't think of or see a single reason or necessity for the creation of this, what void is it actually filling?

Standard PS5 can't do >1080p in UE5 games. PS5 pro will at least do 1440P and with its upscaling can give a nice image quality.

If developers are incompetent Sony should take matters into their own hands and restrict shipping of titles that don't meet the proper standard of performance. If a game can't run at 1440p 60 on performance mode it isn't worthy of a release.

The 9th gen consoles (xbox series s aside) are powerful capable hardware, there is actually no excuse for the performance in gamed that they have other than developer incompetence. Seeing how much of a pivotal role Sony has on the console industry, they should leverage it to make other devs step their fucking game up

Ridiculous, that is how PlayStation would go out of business. Devs should be free to utilize the hardware however they want. If you think a dev sucks or made poor decisions don't buy their games.

I would much rather have 1080p games on the base PS5 while pushing the visuals as much as possible, people have different preferences.

No because the mentality I am advocating for is exactly how Playstation got to the position in the industry that they are in. Regulating developers and tossing away mediocre work is how Sony operated for decades and it's how you got the games you did.

I kind of think of it like a Switch OLED. Is there a benefit? Yeah, a small one, is it going to really improve games for people? Maybe a handful of instances. But ultimately it is a niche product. Ironically enough its real strength might be late in the gen when PS5/6 dual releases come out. I say ironic because its userbase would be disproportionately likely to be early PS6 adopters and thus not get use out of it then.

Developers don't need to worry because Sony is actually reducing the number of SKUs they need to develop for. PS5 Pro will coincide with the death of Xbox and that's two SKUs right there that you can shitcan.
