What has Valve done to deserve all your hatred of them? I can't understand where you are coming from to be honest.
Where did I EVER hate on Valve?? EVER??!? You can't find any evidence of me EVER hating on them. You think I hate them just because I want them to have competition? 😂😂 Thank you for even further proving my point! If anything...I'm a Valve FAN, not hater, I've been gaming on Steam since forever, and Half Life and Portal are some of my favorite games ever. My Steam profile background is even Half Life...and it's been that for years. I just don't want them to have a monopoly on PC gaming, is that so bad??

You're being too emotional......because you have no argument 😂🤣

Why do I use windows? Because I rarely use my PC, it's ONLY for gaming. Everything else I do on my Mac 😎
You clearly need more Linux gaming in your life then you'll see the evil ways of Epic games.

They buy other devs and purposefully kill Linux support and go out of their way to make sure their own games don't work on it (just like Bungie).

They are just not as bad as MS that builds their store in a way to make sure it will never work on Linux.

As for Valve the thing I don't like about them is how they behave when it comes to micro-transactions or preserving the original experiences of their own games.

I read online that EGS works on Linux? 🤔 And there's no point in me gaming on Linux, when Mac gaming is around the corner 😎 that's where I'll switch to full time and I'll never touch Windows again.

So, since is Steam better, and Epic worse... So i will act like a delusional Xbot who like to spin. I will do my best.

Khm, khm..

EGS IS the MARKET LEADER. It has an exclusives, and sometimes EGS is giving away a games for free. Best deal im gaming. Totally illegal. Also, Epic has UE5 which is the best engine out there. Imagine all those exclusive UE5 games which be only played on EGS. And Epic will give them for free too.

These storefront comparisons always interest me since I'm not a pc gamer. I appreciate the light you shed on the matter.

I am ashamed. You have Steam since Half-Life and you only have 268 games.

I have the reputation of being an unconditional Sony fanboy but I'm sure I got you all beat on the games I have on Steam 😅

I bet Flaccid and System can't even touch half my library 😎

I'm a steam fanboy and I only have like 50 games

In my defense I spent over 3000 hours in natural selection 2 🤷‍♂️

Tbh there is no real difference besides a few exclusives that Steam has and also the fact that Valve runs a casino in a bunch of their live service games. People act like Steam is perfect but they partake in some of the most egregious business practices in the industry and pretty much introduced and popularized the concept of loot boxes. No one wants to talk about that though 😂 I don't hate or love either Steam or Epic, and I don't think one is that much better than the other. They serve the same purpose, buy a game, play it, move on, neither particularly do anything special. I just think Steam needs some competition since they've become lazy and complacent. Maybe if Epic becomes a threat in the future, we'll finally get Half Life 3, or maybe they'll bring back the great Steam flash sales they used to have.

I actually made this account in 2014, before that I shared an account with my brother. I only buy games that I know I'll play and complete, that's why I don't have too many. Also 90% of the time I spend on PC gaming, I'm playing PC exclusives like League of Legends and Old School RuneScape. I'd rather get a physical PS5 copy of a game if it's 60fps than get it on Steam. Games I buy on Steam are usually ones I can't get on PS or are much cheaper or are stuck at 30fps or just play better with KBM. This is what I have installed, though I wish I would've got Hogwarts Legacy on PS5 because the pc port was so trash, but I had a Steam gift card 🤷‍♂️

P.S. - Despite what Metacritic says, Recore is a hidden gem !

Nothing wrong with that, its about quality > quantity. I have friends on Steam with over 1000 games and have beaten less games than me on Steam.

I don't believe there is a single person on Earth who doesn't have some financial interest tied to Epic who truly believes the EGS is better than Steam for the end user.
No one thinks EGS is better, at least I don't, we just think 99% of the hate is unwarranted from Steam fanboys and Gaben worshippers. All we want is more competition, but for some reason, people love to cheer on a monopoly.

I totally agree there. I wish EGS was competing by offering a better service than Steam does, but they certainly do not do that, and they don't come remotely close. Valve is a private company and isn't beholden to the whims of a Tencent or a board of shareholders. They can do what they want, how they want to do it, and don't need to report constant year-on-year growth to survive. They have no reason to make Steam a worse thing to squeeze more money out of people. Epic, however, is already playing the late stage capitalism game. All those layoffs while having huge profits, not improving their store, just locking up exclusive games that lots of PC consumers don't want to buy purely because of the store they're on. I forget about all the games I own on Epic all the time and have re-bought most of them when they have come to Steam. Now I just wait for them to come to Steam, especially after all the bullshit IOI was talking about how Hitman 3 would never come to Steam. I was stupid enough to believe them. That one, I will only buy on Steam when it hits $10.

A question I have for you in reply to your post though: is it possible to arrive at the conclusion that Steam offers a far superior experience through their PC game storefront than any other digital game retailer with it not being close by a longshot aside from a few benefits one receives from GOG like complete lack of DRM, without receiving your Steam fanboy or Gaben worshipper labels?

you haven't made a single informed point in the thread. try to play an EGS game with a Dualsense.

@Nhomnhom @flaccidsnake I agree Sony should offer cross buy, and they should partner up with Epic to get it done so they don't lose 30%, maybe 10%😄 that with some aggressive DRM. It would at least make their PC initiative make a bit of sense since it brings some real competition to Steam who are now their biggest threat. It's 3 birds with 1 stone.

Epic Game Store is a trash fire money pit. People literally just wait for a game to go to Steam later on.

I can't see any benefit of tag teaming with Epic on the PC side, for Sony themselves, other than esoteric benefits like "well, at least we're not contributing to Steam directly".

I never saw any Epic fanboy, maximum I saw was people being thankful for getting free game in their store.

But saw a ton PC/Steam fanboys talking as if the only fanboys were the console ones, constantly port begging, acting as if every PC user would have $3000 PCs when comparing PC versions to consoles when the reality is that only a super tiny portion of them have and never talking about the cons of PC gaming.

And worshipping the fat man almost at the same level Nintendo fanboys worship Miyamoto and Iwata.

This is not reality on icon era. The only people talking about $3000 PCs are oddly anti-pc ppl who refuse to believe you can game on a 300 Steam Deck. Imagine if I repeatedly posted that a PS5 costs 5000. That's the factor of wrongness which most Icon posters don't register as absurd/trolling. The most I ever spent on a PC is 1400.

EGS defenders just don't get that it is worse than nothing for game buyers because its primary "consumer-facing" actions are timed exclusives from third parties, not building its own stuff. Their big pitch is a higher cut to publishers/developers but that just doesn't directly translate for consumers. And what few benefits EGS does give (free games, purchased timed exclusives) will clearly go away if the store ever becomes successful while the bad parts (shit interface, lack of community features, losing easy access to your 20 year old back catalog) will seemingly always be bad.

The hope is, and it seems to be coming true, that people just never switch and Sweeney pulls the plug eventually after realizing that not even free (for now, and probably not the game you want) is cheap enough to get people on his alternate storefront.
