The last thing Sony can do is get a portable out.

Make supporting it optional and have the option of remote play/cloud streaming.

That way if a dev can't or doesn't want to do downgrades to support it, you can still play it through remote play or cloud streaming.

It's the only song japan want to hear.

If Sony had already started work on it and got it out this year, they may have been able to take away some of the thunder of the switch 2.

Alot of jrpgs this year didn't even come out for the switch, could have leveraged that.

Umm kinda shocking it’s debuting lower than 16. Not good. It should be the way more hype game. And considering 16’s sales were ho-hum. Still too early to say but not a good look in Japan.

Top ten PS5 launch sales in Japan:

Not bad for FF16 and Rebirth considering the competition from other JRPGs like Like A Dragon and Persona that many have said are gaining more recognition. Kinda surprised Persona 3 Reload only did 76k at launch in Japan.
💯💪

For a while now we've seen Japanese publishers eying Western gamers. They're taking into account audiences outside of Japan.

Gotta love it when guys outside of a region are complaining saying it's a bad thing and are acting like they know the exact reason of why it didn't sell or isn't selling. It's disrespectful and embarrassing to see.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is No.2 in the UK last week, while the Remake and Rebirth double pack is at No.4. Overall (both combined), Rebirth sales are down 34% over the Remake launch (which released on a bigger platform and during the first COVID lockdown). Sales are up 6% over the FF16 launch

Oh yeah, definitely smart of Square to release that double pack with hindsight in mind.

When comparing Famitsu numbers with the past, we have to remember that nowadays sales are around 70% digital - 30% retail, when in the PS3 days were <30% digital - >70% retail.

It's true that physicall games are bigger in Japan than in other countries, mostly due to preference for portables, so nowadays Switch. And in Switch physical sales percentage is higher.

But can't be 30%, there's something missing there, maybe the PC sales.

It is more like 70% retail… 30% digital in Japan today.

Remake shipment + digital was 1 million at launch.
Famitsu physical sales were 702k… what left was on shelves or digital.
That means at least 70% physical.
