Final Fantasy XVI is a timed exclusive but other Titles May Never Make It to Xbox, as Sony Exclusivity Is Going to Get Much Worse according to insider

Already in that thread you can see a bunch of people asking an insider their source, whereas I know if the rumor were about Xbox getting all of those games or getting an exclusive FF deal, they wouldn't stop to question that same insider. Because that's what these people want; it's not about "pro-consumerism" or anything like that.

It's about getting their games as cheaply as possible (through Game Pass) and taking unique offerings away from PlayStation while staying quiet or supportive of Microsoft buying up more 3P...again feeding back to the idea they're just get those games for "free" in Game Pass, and "punish" evil Sony for being anti-consumer (actually pro-competitive in a free capitalist market).

These are the sort of people who espouse Marxist & socialists ideologies to seem progressive on one end, while unironically enabling the rampant monetary growth of one of the largest, and most bullish & greedy, tech capitalist corporations in the entire world. That's a fine example of a paradox if I've ever seen it.

A sizable investment like what they were supposedly thinking about asking for a couple of years back would be good enough as well.

Again if this rumor is true, it's most like what you suggest. Word could probably get around, without anything foul happening (leaking a potential acquisition is illegal).

Same with reddit's gaming rumors subreddit. Any positive Playstation rumors are instantly dismissed while negative Playstation rumors are accepted without question.

Funny how they're cool with MS buying multiple publishers but Sony aren't allowed to sign some temporary deals.

Yeah, buying publishers and taking games away, and making exclusive deals for a game ain't the same. Call it out for what it is.
How does FF, a known multi platform game, benefit from having a paid for spot on PS5? They’re not even making a sequel for 16 so who did that move benefit besides Sony?

Reddit in general is infested with MS astroturfers. Gamingleaks is Xbox ran and any Xbox sub is fully controlled by shills. It's an echo chamber.

Even PS subs are infested. It's one of the reasons I came here. Couldn't really discuss PS there.

I don't think FFXVI can be made on Switch, and we know it’s coming to PC soon. It’s not Sony’s fault Nintendo’s system, where releasing the game would make more sense, is so underpowered. Square made a good business decision by taking a deal that benefits them given the circumstances.

You are being 100% delusional. "A known multiplatform game" yes in the sense it has some older entries on other platforms, platforms where it did not sell particularly well BTW. But the IP itself is heavily associated with PlayStation, and has been for the past 20+ years.

You're also belittling what benefits would come from a partnership; it's not just a one-time cash transaction. Development support, engine support, tech support, marketing & distribution support...and of course solidifying the brand with the platform even more is a natural transient benefit of all of that. This is LITERALLY the same thing Zenimax studios now get with Microsoft...the only difference being Sony doesn't have to outright buy the publisher.

Meaning said publisher, as we just discussed previously, can still operate in the free market independently with other companies for other initiatives. Kind of like with what Kojima Productions (as a studio) is doing with OverDose on Xbox. Meanwhile, they've got Death Stranding 2 on PlayStation.

But if you asked some folks, they'd say the former is "perfectly fine" but the latter is "anti-consumer" and should also come to Xbox because of "reasons" (fanboyism/console warring/stupidity).

You must be new to FF. FFXVII is coming and it’s not a sequel to XVI. Final Fantasy is not canceled.

SquareEnix played off their long-standing business relationship with PlayStation, something they should do, but it’s as anti-consumer as any exclusivity deal on a previously multiplatform game.

My thing is some ppl act like massive crybabies at the mere idea of Xbox blocking their games moving forward and we’re not even at that point yet.

This is not true though

No one was crying when Xbox made 3rd party deals to get games on their console

This is an apples and oranges comparison

Do we know what support SE received while developing FF16 or are you just speaking broadly?

Naoki Yoshida was very vocal about Sony’s generous support during development and said it was a factor in the game being exclusive, and you can read who’s involved in the game’s credits.

Oh right, it's not out on Xbox.
I’m interested in learning because I did not know that. It changes how I look at the deal.

Also hilarious they think 3P exclusivity deals are anti-consumer (another way of saying anticompetitive) when those types of deals in ALL industries are DIRECTLY mentioned on the FTC site as being PRO-COMPETITIVE in markets!

I can't help if people don't know; I can only hope to inform so misguided folks learn.

Not all that is pro-competitive is pro-consumer, especially because pro-competitive is entirely subjective on whoever leads the regulator and the regulator's rules.
