Already in that thread you can see a bunch of people asking an insider their source, whereas I know if the rumor were about Xbox getting all of those games or getting an exclusive FF deal, they wouldn't stop to question that same insider. Because that's what these people want; it's not about "pro-consumerism" or anything like that.
It's about getting their games as cheaply as possible (through Game Pass) and taking unique offerings away from PlayStation while staying quiet or supportive of Microsoft buying up more 3P...again feeding back to the idea they're just get those games for "free" in Game Pass, and "punish" evil Sony for being anti-consumer (actually pro-competitive in a free capitalist market).
These are the sort of people who espouse Marxist & socialists ideologies to seem progressive on one end, while unironically enabling the rampant monetary growth of one of the largest, and most bullish & greedy, tech capitalist corporations in the entire world. That's a fine example of a paradox if I've ever seen it.
Again if this rumor is true, it's most like what you suggest. Word could probably get around, without anything foul happening (leaking a potential acquisition is illegal).

A sizable investment like what they were supposedly thinking about asking for a couple of years back would be good enough as well.
