Selling and supporting their previous console for at least up to three years after releasing their successor has been the norm for Sony even with PS3 to PS4. Sony discontinued PS3 sales in 2016/17 depending on region and PS4 released in 2013.
Yes, all PS home consoles were discontinued between 10 and 12 years after launch. Meaning 3-5 years after releasing the successor. Meaning PS4 would be discontinued in 2023-2025, and considering they have still there like 70% of their userbase even if they sell a small amount of them I think they'll wait to discontinue it (specially for repairs etc).
