Yes, there was a PS4 supply issue because they didn't have enough semiconductors/chips. It lasted for way more than 6 months, because I remember that months before PS5 launch PS4 and DS4 stock was already minimal or sold out and we initially were thinking that it was because Sony was saving production resources for PS5, but later Sony mentioned the issue with their providers was affecting their shipments.
Unlike PS4 and PS5, at least here in Europe always there has been stock of Switch in the store and at normal prices unlike happened with PS4 and PS5.
Yes, as I mentioned as happened with PS5 they barely shipped PS4s since the second half of 2020. The more recent data we have is as of June 30, 2022, shipments being "more than" 117M:

No, in January 2022 Sony debunked these Bloomberg fake news that were saying that PS4 production was discontinued but Sony produced 1M PS4 more to compensate it:

Meaning, that if they barely produced PS4 consoles during 2021 it wasn't because they had discontinued the console or due to lack of demand. Their plans were to continue producing PS4s, which with recent leaks we saw in late 2022 were 70% of the PS active userbase. Sony also started to merge PS4 & PS5 reported numbers as they also did in other generational transitions and stopped reporting PS4 sales in (sales in March, shipments in June) 2022. As of today PS4 still aren't discontinued.
But yes, I agree that PS4 sales shouldn't be far from 117M. Maybe somewhere between there and 120M.
How many did they sell Q1 2023? Because I think we can figure out what they'd need for Q1 this year to hit the FY '22 target of 25 million.

Q2 FY2023 : 4.9M

Please provide a link for that. I'l give you a hint, you won't find it because there isn't any. Lack of components wasn't a problem for PS4 in 2014. They've made around 1.4 million PS4s per month. Also, depends how many chips they've ordered from TSMC. But lack of components wasn't a problem for PS4. At all.
I'm from Europe and Switch wasn't always in stock in 2022. Remember that OLED model was out of stock oftenly because because already there was a problem with semiconductors. As Nintendo officially announced a NSW shortages because components problems.

OK, so that would mean, more or less, as of Dec. 9th they've sold ~ 17 million PS5s? And might be closer to 19 million - 20 million (or something in-between) as of January this year?
So they'd have anywhere between 5-6 million to sell this Q1 to hit their 25 million FY '22 target. That could be doable.

2014? The shipment issues were from 2020 H2 to 2022, not in 2014. I already shared a link of Sony saying that if they didn't discontinue and started to produce 2021 PS4 on purpose because their plan never was to discontinue it in 2021 because PS4 was still alive and like in any generation they planned to keep supporting it some years after the release of its successor. (That range normally is 3-5 years, meaning 10-12 years lifecycle, meaning for PS4 would mean to discontinue it in 2023-2025).

Ooooh, you thought that i was talked about 2020 till 2022? No, no. I've talked about launch time aligned numbers PS4 vs. PS5 since very first post. Yes, Sony upped PS4 production in 2022 because PS5 shortage and problem with its components.

I posted a link where Sony specified that their idea wasn't to stop PS4 production in 2021, that their plan was -as always- to continue selling the console several years after the release of its successor.
They also mentioned that PS4 production/shipments wasn't related to PS5.
Meaning, like PS5, the PS4 also had very limited shipments due to chips shortages also affecting the PS4.

Selling and supporting their previous console for at least up to three years after releasing their successor has been the norm for Sony even with PS3 to PS4. Sony discontinued PS3 sales in 2016/17 depending on region and PS4 released in 2013.
Better check smaller local retailers and grab one while you can. Or find low-traffic locations of chain stores.
