How do you think game development can be sped up?

AI and procedual generations.

Also cut down the dev teams, maybe more outsourcing. Some of the people in production are fucking useless and we know why they get the job.

1. Make more linear games and less open world games
2. Make games that are shorter in length such as 10-20 hours instead 30-50 hours
3. Stop making multiple versions at once and focus at one a time or only one.
4. Reduce scope if necessary
5. Reuse assets
6. Better management.
7. Make more double AA games

I think theres too many of those big budget games on the market at the moment And not enough smaller budget games. Lot of genres are overlooked atm as well.
Give me a mid sized budget game like "Bloodstained" and I'm more than happy. Some really dope 2d games with 3d backgrounds could be done with smaller budgets and I'd be all in.

"hub games" (need a better word for sure). Say, one fighter from a franchise per gen just stuffed with dlc/fighters/modes. By end of gen it's a greater sum of parts, with more fighters, than reinventing the gameplay wheel, and re-starting on a new game. Quicker to make a fighter than inpliment a gameplay change such as run button in/out

Just look at the indie games being released all the time, there are plenty of games of many types... but it's really hard to find news about everything.

I mean, how many people will click the video or article about small game X when you have news about ODing, GoD and whatever else big title is there?

The solution is what we had before, the platform holders game time for a few of them in their presentations, but even then... they need to pick a few.

indie are "AA" games these days:

This is a dust bath, creatures like chinchillas and squirrels use it to clean and maintain their fur, which helps keep parasites of them

Chickens do it too sometimes.

That's not cocaine bear part 2 FFS

it looks like powdered chalk or something though, or flour. also the cocaine part reminded me of when scientists fed cocaine to rats in experiments

We need smaller games.
Ff 16 did not had to be in dev for 7 years.
The game could've been 20 hours amazing action rpg instead of added 20 hours of mmo bloat with very bad quality.
And it would've been a better game for it.

If ff16 cut out all the bloat it would probably only cut 1 year off the dev time. the shitty parts of the game really aren't very well made and seem tacked-on.

Just look at how cute that animal is,

We are not turning it into some sort of drug-induced, crack-headed, cocaine-snorting rabid animal like you, @Gamernyc78 and @KiryuRealty want it to be.

Damn you guys all to hell.

I do always hear indies are where the real games are at. Honestly I wonder what could be done if more of these companies made games similar to those.

Not gonna tell you the indies are where the real games are... But these games are very often extremely competent, and there are so many of them, so it becomes a treasure hunt.

95% of them are generic 2d side strollers though, a genre I couldn't care less about

Sure there are a lot of 2d games, but so many 3d projects exist as well.

The PS4 had over a thousand games made for it during its lifetime, I'm willing to bet that even together we have not heard or half of them. Its library is filled to the brim with hidden gems.

But, like most entertainment the vast majority of it is not that great.

Its not the side scrolling I mind in some indies. But what's with the neon glow astetic, like colored sword swishes if not a light trail falling out characters' arses, no matter if the indy game is 2d/2.5/3d/somewhat top dowm. It's the new superbros pixelart astetic that everyone seems to use this gen.

They SCREAM mobile shite uprezzed for consoles.

We really need dev times to be shortened some way and games to really not pass 3 years of development. It would do good for the industry.

If I were Sony I'd make a plan to release some really good looking and fun linear games which can have faster dev time lines and mix it up obviously with a few open world tht might take longer with a pinch of remakes tht don't take tht long. The focus on just bigger and grandor has really cost gamers.Bigger scale isn't evertyhing.

If I have to guess (I'm no game dev) it's only possible by reducing the scope of your game. Or heavily reusing stuff from previous games, which only works for certain genres.

Hiring more people slows things down instead of speeding them up. So yeah, there's no actual way to speed it up that I know of.
