"Xbox wins the E3" and "PS haz no gamez", but like every year in 2024 Sony will have more games, better reviewed, with better sales and with more awards. And will continue eating Xbox market share for breakfast.
It's just a clickbaity title, the answer to the question that the people in the panel is 'no'.Are games consoles facing extinction?
The games industry is in constant flux; what we think we know today as fact is gone often completely different the next…www.gamesindustry.biz
The market will continue the trend of the different platform hardware converging on a more and more similar hardware between the different consoles, portables, PC and mobile.
Which will allow more games being present in more platforms to reach more players. But at the same time, there will be game types more suited to be played in a console with a big tv, other ones in a phone, other ones in VR, etc.
More game types will appear, new hardware types, new business models and new niches. Stuff like streaming, VR or maybe even in the long run "metaverses" (online virtual worlds like Second Life or PS Home) will continue growing but won't replace consoles, will continue being a complement, a different market that adds on top as happened with let's say mobile gaming.
As already is happening, internally they may be a PC or a mobile, and you may play there games locally or via streaming, and these PS/Nintendo/Xbox platforms may evolve into multiplatform online ecosystems/platforms that allow you to play the console games anywhere.
But you will continue having dedicated gaming machines to be plugged to your tv with a gamepad, or to play them as a handheld.
