Oh how far digital has come. Looks like it's following the movie trajectory and ppl really don't care about having hard copies of games that much.

How many people ever kept old generation games around to play them?

Keeping old stuff in significant quantity is something for the hardcore of any given hobby.

The rest will buy a Chinese made NES mini replica, or a Nintendo switch, when they want to show Mario bros to their kids.

Holy crap, Japan is truly the world of Nintendo, all, but the last, best selling games are from them (or switch exclusives).

How many people ever kept old generation games around to play them? I did, but so few people kept their old machine when they got the next generation.

There's a lack of investment in physical media too.... I mean they could have a phenomenal medium that has zero load times and doesn't need to be loaded onto a hard-drive. Then they could lean into the collectible aspect and the lack of DRM.

But companies have a hard-on for streaming and digital now, even though streaming has led to them all losing billions and they overestimated how successful it would be and how much it would cost.

Digital is great but I always want the option of physical and I find the lack of investment in physical very shortsighted from these companies.

I've also seen many deals on games that were much better than on PSN. In fact I have not found the PSN sales very good since 2019 / 2020. They definitely took a dive in terms of value they offered.

Physical still strong. A lot of games are digital only on platforms, so numbers are skewed in favor of digital. Plus everything coming out of pandemic.

Where it’s at.

Thing is, with movies there is a HUGE difference in quality for a stream vs a disc. Most people don’t care, but for film buffs like me, it’s an issue and I’ll buy the discs for the important stuff.

With games, digital vs physical is the same in-game experience, and digital adds convenience. If you don’t buy at full price, digital can be way cheaper here, too. As a result, I only own about a dozen discs for PS4.

For most people, convenience is a big thing. My wife will stream movies we own just because it’s easier than finding the disc, where I will dig out the disc every time. With games, I’ll play something installed on my system before I’ll go fish out a disc for something else. I’ve even considered buying digital copies of a couple of my disc games just for the convenience, when the games have gone on sale for a deep discount.

As long as they keep offering people the choice to buy physical... This is inconsequential.

I've moved more and more to digital, I think more than half of my ps5 games I've bought digital. Only reason I buy physical still is because Amazon drops game prices sonetones fairly quickly so I'll end up getting a game like Days Gone, GOW, etc eventually for like 20/25 if I'm waiting to buy (I bought GOW R day one digital). Also just bought Resi Village for $20 on psn which I was waiting for :)

I also now prefer digital because me and my son game share under my acct and a game like COD MW we can play together simultaneously with just my digital copy. There are some good benefits to going digital and obviously for physical.

Digital libraries are great. I sure as hell don’t want a collection of game discs or cartridges. I always get rid of old stuff. It’s not like I still can’t play Super Metroid etc… of course I can. In fact, games are far more accessible than ever.

I’m glad to see it takeover. You don’t have issues of limited game runs like FZERO GX which was a huge flop and sold like 50k units. You want it. No waiting. No searching. Just download it.

(I still have my super Metroid and f-zero games and boxes lols - I knew to keep fzero )

Yo wtf Nintendo. Just remaster gx.

I also had an issue with a few Uncharted games and Killzone where the disc was new, no scratches yet wouldnt fucking load. I felt like shit was being done purposely lol so I could go out and buy another. With digital no need to worry about that.

I do like however to see physical library set up in my man cave or some collectors editions. Man there is benefits to both.

My daughter and I share libraries, and since she has a PS5 and a PS4 Pro like I do, she lent her girlfriend her Pro, and we get three copies of a digital game for one purchase now. Four if your throw in my Pro.

No surprise here. Still buy physical but prefer digital. This generation, im 60/40 in favor of physical thus far but that could change as the years progress.

Physical is dying.

And founder or not, don't run around this forum calling people stupid. Show some fucking respect.
It’s going to take longer than one generation for consoles to go digital-only. Infrastructure just isn’t there for it in a lot of places.
