I'm not liking these numbers tbh. The gaming industry needs to be better at preservation before it even considers going digital-only. Remakes (which are usually separate games with their own scripts, art styles, and gameplay) don't really cut it either. Piracy has done more to keep classic games alive than actual game companies, and that's not good.
I foresee a future where streaming services and digital vendors dominate the landscape, where media purchases can be yanked from your library if the platform loses the rights, where older or less popular media are lost to time, where you can only buy games on platform stores, and you know what? Fuck that. I don't need corporations deciding for me what I'm allowed to watch or experience.
