Where it’s at.
Hypothetical, but I have full value insurance on personal estate(I hope this means what I think it means, insurance terms in English I'm not that familiar with).
I can buy different games if I choose to replace them, i don't collect games so loosing those copies wouldn't be a big issue anyways.

Then again Game collectors should regularly do an inventory of their collection for insurance reasons.
Sure.

Point is, ohysical fetishists need to accept both formats end up being close to the same in the end. “What ifs” are nothing to get hung up on.

I agree, I'm one of those physical fetisch guys.
Im not in denial of the reality and where we are heading, but I will support physical as long as possible...

Oh how far digital has come. Looks like it's following the movie trajectory and ppl really don't care about having hard copies of games that much.
i dont wanna get up and change discs tbh.

but if they remove past purchases from libraries, as a more commonplace practice, emulation usually covers the shortfall.

As I said, there are many comforts with digital.

But digital, especially on console, means being bound to an account which, for whatever reason, could lose access to the whole library.

If one of the console manufacturers tomorrow decides/has to end their service, it takes whatever I have digital, with them.

Alone for this point, I will never go full digital.

I cannot lend my games to friends, neither could I borrow one if I had a digital only console.

I am often able to preorder/buy physical games on day 1 at least 10€ cheaper.
bought CC FF Reunion physical second hand for 37€. new physical was 47€ and digital 57€.
good luck matching that for months.

That 94% number is there only because consoles are at 72. Mobiles and PC have been 100% digital for a very long time by now, even the games shop don't carry that many games these days.

This 10000%

Even with how great the steam and PSN sales are right now, I can still go on Amazon and Ebay and find most of them cheaper lol

yet..I find that ALL YEAR ROUND, not merely just on a set of dates they tell me and over time you'll only find more and more deals from users selling their games.

I'm literally about to buy the PS5 version of Scarlet Nexus for $11, Valkyrie Elysium for $25, Soul Hackers 2 for $25 and Tales of Arise for $14.

I will always be physical over digital. My set up is usually 95-5. I don't mind 5% or so on digital if I feel its a um.."throw away" game thats a once over, or really, really cheap and I can't find it cheaper digital or clearly is only digital like Diablo 2 remake or something. Outside of that, I keep majority of my purchases on disk. I'll sell what ever I didn't care for, buy used of titles I want to play at any time as suppose to this whole sale pressure lol Be like "buy Assassins Creed Valhalla for $20 THIS WEEK ONLY, for a fucking game I might play 6 months from now" lol

With used, at least when I'm buying ,its based on what I want to play right then and there. Waiting is ok as the game will just continue to get cheaper as to goes thru the used market, ie Walmart, Gamestop, Amazon, Ebay etc. There is no "oh if you don't buy this week, it will be back to 69.99" with used games.

man, I sure am having some doubts about trying to be digital only on ps5.... sure, I have 600 steam games but I don't use pc that much anymore and I like owning physical games.
-I can play the game off-line in post apocalypse or when servers are just dead
-I can not patch the game if I want 1.0 version for some reason (it was benefit starting this gen with ps4 games)
-I can sell or lend someone my game which fucking sucks. I don't like lending my games but I did sold callisto recently for 40$.
-Sony does not control the physical market. I got callisto for 55$ and new, stillin foil, pre-order edition of saints row... for 10$.
-You sometimes get a lot of stuff for same or less money than digital game. Look at saints row or elden ring here below:

-Recently my steam copy got the same treatment as gta iv few years ago. Epic was added to it, saves got destroyed and a bunch of issues made my copy of the game harder to play or changed.
-So we got better price, more stuff for the money, stuff to display, playability off-line and patchless if needed.
--We don't get ability to backup patches externally, so if servers die in a war, we will play 1.0 and digital users will not play at all.

But then we can look at digital purchases in a positive way
-Sure, servers can die... but they will not. No way sony servers will die... probably.
-You can download all games, full patched and just keep them on the ssd. you don't need to be off-line am I correct? Do you need to get off-line or as long as you play on your profile or on this "main" console, it is fine?
-So as above, discs might get damaged, broken, rot and corrupted. You will most likely have access to games on psn always and even if world dies, you will be able to play already downloaded.
-Or you can get hacked or banned... then no. It all is connected to your profile.
-No control over prices but good psn deals
-No clutter, don't need more room for games
-Buying physical is pain nowadays too... Nobody sells them at retail here anymore. I have to order online and wait

I store my installed games on an external 8tb HDD. The servers should not be a worry.

I do agree with you on pretty much every other points, but I still get digital because I can't be bothered to go to games stores or even walk to the console to change disc and I find the disc spinning sound annoying.

Yeah I see that point. Getting games is really a pain in the ass recently. Seems like physical is barely a business here.

Btw. So you download your PSN games straight to 8tb hdd. That sounds like a good idea.
Do You know when this games will be usable and when not? Like, only on your profile? what if you were off-line for some time and other scenarios. I am genuinely interested how it's handled.
And will the games all start patching up when you insert that HDD ?

Ps4 games work just like they would in a regular ps4 (I think they don't need to recheck once in a while, as long as you play them on the right profile, probably from the main console). Obviously ps+ games and others subs based games will require a server validation from time to time.

Ps5 games need to be transferred to an internal nvme drive to be played... I have not checked if I can do this offline.

If you’ve transferred a PS5 game from your internal NVME to a USB drive, you can transfer it back without any validation, as long as it is the same PS5 you’re transferring it on.

Thanks that's what I assumed, but someone was asking me advice on something I had not confirmed. So I was cautious.

Dude, you really need to use “can” and “can’t” properly.
