Lots of ps games in the top 10 this week

Welp those software results for PS this week are going to kill a lot of narratives, that's for sure. It was always a matter of the right software coming about: if the software fitting the tastes are there, Japanese gamers will buy it.

I'm also surprised that, given Series (particularly the S) have had a few decent-ish weeks at retail with sales, not a single Xbox title has made Top 25 since the system launched. And I know the argument is usually "GamePass", but all of the big software releases in Japan don't go to GamePass Day 1, so what are Japanese gamers with Xbox consoles actually playing?

I think a lot of them could be using their Series S units as cheap home theater players for streaming apps and Blu-Ray films, honestly. I doubt Series S systems are being scalped out to other regions, though.

You can get the Series S and Series X pretty much anywhere in Europe, so they wouldn't be scalping them here. The PS5 is another story though, even if availability has improved somewhat recently.

That said, still trying to convice my gf to buy a second PS5 so I can have one on the living room and one in my office. We have different tastes in games, so each can have their own. Not much success though, so far. I'll try again for my birthday.

They don’t sell xbox games in retail stores in japan anymore. I think some locations might get a few copies here and there but nothing significant.

Really? Damn, did not know that. Welp that explains why. Maybe in markets like Japan where physical isn't an option, there's more incentive for them to try seeing if the game's on GamePass so they can buy it at a discount (although that means they have to sub to the service.

Looks like supply is hitting both PS5 and Series hard that week in Japan, but those Series numbers are downright anemic, and I doubt Series S is that hard to secure over there (it seems readily available practically in every global market).

There are still like 5-6 times as many PS5's than Xbox Serie's in Japan...

I don't see how it's surprising they haven't made any lists, considering PS5 hasn't exactly been killing it on these lists either. Even if you had a game do "relatively" well as the top game here, which sold 17k... you'd have like 3-4k in sales and it wouldn't be on the list.

I think Famitsu switched to using Media Create numbers for xbox which is more accurate and far lower than the former has been reporting so expect the xbox numbers to be a lot lower from this point on.

If Famitsu is doing adjustments then it will show low number until it reaches something close to MC… after that it start to post more accurate numbers.

But I think a bit premature to say if they are doing adjustments or not… if the gap between Famitsu and MC closes then they are indeed doing it.

Yah, they probably allocated a shitload of units for the GoW, FIFA, and COD MW2 bundles, 3 franchises which don’t sell in Japan at all.

As far as japanese games the only thing coming out for playstation this last quarter is Crisis Core, and thats on everything.

I've only done that for a handful of shows. King Of The Hill, Cheers, Frasier, The Office....and Arrested Development.
