hilarious how the ps blog is filled with people excited to play this with their kids on PlayStation and switch. It's all positive except for a poster named...Etifilio lol
The PS blog that's brigaded by MS astroturfers? The people who only post when it's negative PS news? Those people? You can't seriously be this easily fooled.

It's short term money. You're exchanging long term investors that buy both games through your store and pay for a subscription, for short term ones that only buy a game once in a while.

Platform holders compete with exclusives. I know people like to parrot how they're anti consumer but they're what push the industry forward. If you don't use exclusive software to entice people into your ecosystem, you have no incentive to make that software good.

If everything is everywhere, where does the competition come from? if you're not worried about selling hardware, why would you bother developing good software? Just make some slop and plaster it everywhere. It'll stick eventually, right?

You're short sighted.

It's long term money. They're building a brand around Horizon. It's going to be a game on PlayStation, PC, Mobile, and Switch.

If the TV show is a hit, it's going to do wonders for the brand.

Horizon 3 will launch exclusively on PS5/PS6. It will eventually port to PC, but core fans will play it on PS5.

We're getting close to a post-console gaming era and a post-platform era. All that is going to matter in 15-20 years is IP.

Sony will still push PS5 and even PS6, but building bigger brands is going to become more and more of a priority. And it's just smart business. Netflix would not be Netflix if it only ran on Samsung TVs. Sony damaged themselves when they focused on single player AAA games exclusive to PS4 while the rest of the industry pivoted to non-exclusive and GaaS.

Sony is now forced to play catch up to increase their market share and mind share.

When you look at the console market and you consider TAM, the only real way to increase your software sales is to increase availability on other platforms. That doesn't even need to come at the detriment of your hardware sales if you're smart about it. No one was going to buy a PS5 just for Lego Horizon. It's not a system seller.

The funny thing is, most of these fanboys hate Horizon. They just don't like the idea of it being on Switch. Even if its developed by a 3rd party developer.

MS astroturfers who aren't angry that this game isn't coming to Xbox? No mention of xbox in the comments at all... but sure...

If you don't think there are people who own PlayStation and have kids who have Switch, I'm not sure what to tell you.

supporting Nintendo Switch but not surpporting PS4, your own base, in which 50M people are still playing actively, a lot of children (if that's your concern)

That makes no sense...

Because you don't want it to make sense.

Look at the description of experimental games.

  • Unlock new audiences
  • target new genres
  • high potential game
  • discipline on scope and budget

They mentioned farming out development to cheaper teams. This game is likely a fraction of the cost of a normal AAA game set in the Horizon universe.

This game might end up being the biggest Switch game of the holiday season... What else is there?

Definitely not a genre that Sony has really explored much.

Targeting a much younger audience that sony has struggled with since the PS3.

Honestly, surprised that Astro Bot isn't on its way to Switch, but it probably wasn't feasible given the dual sense controls.

People need to chill.. It's a LEGO game ain't no way they would have wanted that not to be multi-platform

Some people think only Sony has the negotiations rights, but not Lego. :/ 😂

Those people are dumb. They are ignoring the fact Studio Gobo developed this game, not Sony itself :

About us

Studio Gobo is renowned for working on acclaimed and award winning games and with the very best publishers and game creators. The team at Gobo have worked on some of the biggest IP’s in the world including, Redfall, Hogwarts Legacy, Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy, For Honor and many more. Founded in 2011 the company has grown to over 120 talented people and a development pedigree that spans four decades. The team at Studio Gobo are perfectly placed to help bring any AAA game to market on any platform.

Or maybe they are co-developing a game with Guerilla, dunno

Netflix's business model doesn't depend on developing and selling hardware. Sony's a hardware company first.

The same focus on AAA SP games that secured their leadership of the entire industry? That Sony needs to play catchup? Who are they catching up to? The dead xbox? Or Nintendo, the company that thrives on AAA SP exclusives?

The biggest question is: Does this game count in the list war of Sony 2024 games or it's still barren?

Imo, Sony is having the best year among all the publishers. Not even Ubisoft or EA is that prolific.

Software is way more important than hardware in this modern age, but having a strong software profile can help you with hardware, but again, we're going to be in a post-hardware age sooner rather than later.

You'll eventually see a Sony PC launcher, mobile store, and handheld. All of these will be buoyed by stronger software and IP.

Sometimes success becomes your biggest weakness and if you remain blind to changes around you, it can be your downfall.

AAA SP games are great. That's all I play. But from a business standpoint, they're one and done and have limited range against TAM.

Nintendo has a HUGE advantage over Sony. They've been developing IP for 40 years. Sony's longest running franchise IP is less than 20 years old (God of War). You could give a nod to Ratchet and Clank, but it doesn't have the range of God of War.

Sony was at a disadvantage from the start because they didn't own the rights to Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon. They didn't have the budget/talent to make Syphon Filter bigger than Metal Gear Solid or Splinter Cell. The Getaway failed to become a GTA killer and Killzone failed to become a Halo killer. Zipper Interactive didn't have the budget/talent to bring SOCOM to a more modern stage.

When Sony doubled down on IP that's when they started to finally find some real success, but they didn't have a transmedia strategy so their success was limited to the gaming universe.

There was a Mario cartoon in 1989.... Same with Captain N: Game Master.

Sony is a small market cap company in a world of big tech. Their competition is no longer Xbox, it's Apple, Amazon, Google... people who could buy out 3rd party publishers right from underneath them.

Imagine in the next 10 years: Amazon buys EA, Apple buys Take2.... what kind of a blow do you think that would be to Sony?

Putting Lego Horizon on Switch is a huge PR fail for Sony. I am seeing Nintendo fanboys gloating: "Sony soon Multi-platform hehe". Now these imbeciles think Sony will port PS games on Switch 2. Well done Sony. Another own goal. Sony deserves the backlash.

Crazy the mentality of fanboys not realizing what is good for business and good for an ecosystem.

We're getting a re-release of Tomba as an experimental title developed by Limited Run Games...

Imagine what that could mean for other Sony franchises if successful. So yes, I hope everyone buys it on Switch and PC. I loved Tomba as a kid. If they released it on PS4 and PS5 only, it probably bombs and doesn't make sense, but extra exposure to other platforms... it might even do better on those platforms.

It could get Sony back into Everybody's Golf and Arc the Lad... maybe even Legend of Dragoon and Alundra...

You guys are wildly short sighted.
