Lego Horizon Adventures is on Switch because Playstation Studio’s Guerrilla Games wanted the game to reach more people

Agree.

I meant as a complimentary to PlayStation because Sony has no handheld and isn’t making mobile games.

Unlike PC which is a direct competitor to Playstation.

I expect this LEGO deal is long term and we will
see more Sony LEGO games on Switch in the future.

People thinking this is a back door to bring mainline Horizon games to Switch 2 are being silly.
I don’t mind the Lego game but first party making them just takes resources away from actual PS exclusive games that push the brand, platform & storfront.

Nah that one Guerilla game dev saying he would want to see aloy on smash. Not “it would be cool to see aloy in a platform fighter using PS/Sony ip”

The first Nintendo did when Sony bought EVO was pull Smash of EVO lineup. Yet PS in the 4 years since they bought them show any signs of rebooting or purchasing a fighting game studio to make a platformer or translate PS ip to fighting games that could mainline EVO. Will see Aloy or Kratos on Smash before we see a PS platform fighter. Embarrassing. The narrow sight of short term profit & growth instead of long will kill PS & make PS end up like Xbox. Its even crazy to think PS is pushing this 3rd party when Switch 2 will be at the power of a PS4 & get all JRPGS day 1 if not a couple months later & COD, Battlefield & GTA6 will release on Switch 2 either day 1 or at a later date. Switch 2 not only getting the same 3rd party as PS they’ll likely get exclusive Asia/Mobile focus games by default because of there strong position in console/handheld & Japan. Nintendo is also massively expanding they’ve almost double in headcount which equates to more Nintendo games being made permanently exclusive to the Switch while also having cheaper online subscription.

Fantastic post.

Nintendo never supported the Smash competitive community and were removing Smash from tournaments before Sony bought EVO.

Yet PS in the 4 years since they bought them show any signs of rebooting or purchasing a fighting game studio to make a platformer or translate PS ip to fighting games that could mainline EVO.
Melty Blood Type Lumina, one of the mainline EVO games on the editions made after Sony bought it, a Sony published game (via Lasengle, an Aniplex/Sony Music Japan subsidiary).

Most of the other EVO mainline games, despite being 3rd party, had some type of PS exclusivity or marketing deal with Sony.

EVO is mostly a marketing tool for Sony where they market their console, accesories and games.

Will see Aloy or Kratos on Smash before we see a PS platform fighter.
They already did it, and didn't work:

Embarrassing. The narrow sight of short term profit & growth instead of long will kill PS & make PS end up like Xbox.
No, it's the opposite.

To limit themselves to PS5 only SP games would kill them in the long term because game budgets skyrocket every generation and the sales/revenue, even if at record numbers and in a growing path, don't increase at the same pace at all to the point that most of their AAA games wouldn't be profitable this or next generation, specially considering that every year the percentage of game revenue from addons keeps replacing the percentage of game revenue coming from selling games.

They need extra revenue, profit and extra players, so this is why they grow to search new revenue sources in new markets or game types, as is GaaS and other platforms (mostly PC, mobile and movies/tv shows).

The console market had a small and slow growth in recent generations and they already ate almost all Xbox's and Nintendo's home console market share.

Its even crazy to think PS is pushing this 3rd party when Switch 2 will be at the power of a PS4 & get all JRPGS day 1 if not a couple months later & COD, Battlefield & GTA6 will release on Switch 2 either day 1 or at a later date. I didn't see any announcement of FFXIV, FFXV, FFXVI, FFVII remakes, Battlefield and GTA6 coming to Nintendo. Or any specific CoD.

The number of games being released on PlayStation, both in total and the ones not available in Switch keep beeing way more every year than the amount of Switch exclusives. This is one of the reasons of why there are way more games being sold every year on PS than in Switch.

Oh please lol. They got better after they left
naughty Dog died when Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin left, it just hasn't been the same
Uncharted 4 and TLOU2 are easily the best ND games ever. But ND production under Neil has been horrible, needless remake and remasters that should've been free upgrades, and they altered their entire development pipeline to make PC development easier.....when their games have all bombed on PC. Neil is a great writer but an awful President!

4 years and 200 million down the toilet for Factions 2 and TLOU2 No Return for $10 feels like a scam when GoWR Valhalla is free and 100x better.

When Neil wasn't president we had Uncharted 4, Uncharted Lost Legacy, and TLOU2 all in less than 4 years. Now it's been 4 years since TLOU2 and we have nothing but remake, remasters, and a TV show. We also had a clear idea of what they were making and the general timeline, now we have no clue what they're working on or how far out it'll be.

Both Nintendo & Steam wants PS killed & here we are saying “no this platform makes sense no this platform makes sense for expansion”
PlayStation fans are becoming worse than Xbox fans. Anything Sony says, they just blindly follow. If Gran Turismo 7 and God of War were ported to Xbox tomorrow they'd come up with 10 paragraph essays to justify why it's an amazing idea.

The verdict is still out on the Druckmann era as I'm sure Factions failing wasn't his fault so it's all about what comes next and then we'll see if he's truly a failure, imo.

Ever. Instead of them pitching their own PS all-star fighting game, they want to piggyback off of others, sad.
PS has the advantage with owning EVO also essentially making a platform fighter that’s fully live service unlike Smash that’s been ignored.

PS AllStars available on PS4, PS5, PS6 & Mobile make it F2P so people don’t compare sells with Smash & use ccs to make it PS Allstars seem like it’s more successful then Smash & Multiversus.

Ft all PS ip & Sony ip like The Boys, Demon Slayer, Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad (Walter white) also having Will Smith with a Slap emote or the YouTube rewind oh its rewind time emote would be funny to do at EVO. They can even get anime characters like One Piece, DBZ, Jujutsu Kaisen by having relationship by owning Crunchyroll.

Instead they trying rely on 3rd party. Its like they haven’t learned from MS buying 3rd party & 3rd party moving 3rd party if not giving deals to your rival platforms who have no market in the console market smh

Polyphony is goat, they should expand that team to get an arcade racer going, Sony has too many western studios for their own good
Expand Poly to make a Gran Turismo spin off focus on car customization & fun arcade gameplay that competes w Forza Horizon, TD & Need For Speed. There’s not many competition & a Gran Turismo spin off can honestly take over racing games has been in a new low especially arcade racer outside Forza Horizon & GT7. GT7 is soon to be the best selling GT game & at $70. Sony needs to double down on spin off game & tv shows/movies, anime.

Also Asobi expanded into 2-3 teams & bring back some beloved franchise like Ape Escape, Gravity Rush that are platformer focus & Asobi can replicate the fun charming gameplay with those 2 franchise w potential. Even looking at Legend of Dragoon & Wild Arms now that it looks PS might loose FF exclusivity. It would be crazy to see a Legend of Dragoon outsell a multiplat FF. Spit directly to Square face lol

Sony believes they are in the enshittification phase of PlayStation, they don't plan on expanding their console business, they just want to make it more profitably and milk it dry in what they see as an inevitable transitions to another business model.

Anyone investing in digital games on PlayStation will end up stranded as Sony already doesn't give a fuck and will care even less in the future.

None of the advantages that consumers enjoy on PlayStation as of right now are unique to it and Valve and Nintendo have ways to close the gap or match them in pretty much everything. SIE is betting on their future as a publisher just as they have become less productive than ever.

Nintendo is always reinventing themselves and yet people think they won't ever challenge PlayStation directly again and the same is true for Valve. Nintendo releasing a powerful enough console or Valve releasing a console-like PC are all very real threats to Sony's console business yet they don't seem to care. They are fucking around and they are going to find out, coasting on brand name alone will only protect them for so long, other companies are not as incompetent as Xbox.

I really hope they do, but I doubt it, they probably make $150 pure profit for every Switch sold and don't want to risk that. But even with a less powerful console, Nintendo will still dominate Sony next gen, I can't wait for them to get all the 3rd party exclusives that Sony thinks don't matter anymore. Only thing that sucks is GTA 6 probably won't be on Switch 2, or will come much letter, that's literally the only thing saving Sony.

It's crazy that Sony doesn't see Nintendo and Valve as competition, but Xbox that's on it's deathbed and is porting all their games to PlayStation is seen as competition 😂😂😂😂

Nintendo just needs their next device to be powerful enough, they don't need to match PS5. PS4 level graphics combined with storage and CPU advancements are all they need to create and environment where they get decent ports of 99% of games and even create an opening for a non portable Switch 2 Pro in the future aimed at enthusiasts that care about graphics/performance.

To destroy PlayStation in the long term all that is going to take is to steal some of their market share, not too much, just enough to create a visible trend of decreased sales and Sony won't have anything left they can do to reverse that.

Sony can't reverse their multiplataform push at this point and investors will punish Sony at the first sign that PlayStation won't be growing ever again. Sony is out of the portable market, they are not growing their consoles sales despite Xbox complete collapse and they are empowering Steam while devaluing their games and exposing them to piracy. Less PlayStation sold means less PS+ subscribers, less willingness to invest on more games, more pressure to release things on PC days one and so on.

Sony now is like Xbox in 2015 when they started to port their games to PC, they played themselves and it's only a matter of time and in their case it's even worse because Xbox had a lot less to lose and extra incentives that Sony doesn't have to want to support PC.

Yep, and ironically, the Series S has ensured the Switch 2 will get much more support than it would've if it didn't exist. And a lot of publishers that skipped out on Switch this gen have regretted it and will be scrambling to support Switch 2. The Japan Famitsu weekly charts where Switch dominates sales will become the trend worldwide.

100%, the Series S is what created this opening so soon for Nintendo.

Sony gave up on portables, gave up on Japan, gave up on many third party exclusives, gave up on their own games being exclusives, they even published multiple games on Xbox, they accepted being the media/social media punching bad, they are willing to go along with anything as if they had no agency.

In order to find out the reasons why, we ran the question by Guerrilla Games' narrative director James Windeler at Summer Game Fest Play Days. The answer we received shouldn't come as much of a surprise; it turns out the development teams simply wanted the game to reach more people.

It’s a joke right? Playstation already lost japan to Nintendo. Are they really just going to throw away everything they have built the last 20 years? I just do not understand

Man, this thread exploded. I never expected so many to get hyped for a Lego Horizon game. It looks awesome, though.
I don't know most here opinions...

But this type of game is everything I was asking years ago here in this own forum.
Of course needs more... just Astro and Lego Horizon is not enough... it will be good for this year only.

That's so nice of them to want to reach as many people as possible. It must be a coincidence that the platform they're releasing on is only Nintendo and not PC, mobile and xbox

Polyphony has been growing these years, they now have 4 offices (1 in Netherlands and another in USA). Basically had 3 teams: one working in the next game, another one in the VR version and a third one making post launch content for the already published game.

The movie apparently worked well, so I assume will make more movies. And who knows if TV shows and anime, but I see a good fit for both. I assume that they'll do minimum one Gran Turismo mobile focused game, maybe more focused on managing a team, customization, super casual races, etc.

I think there's room for a separate console/PC arcade racing game to compete against Forza, NFS or The Crew, but they could also simply add it as game mode in GT. Same goes with the customization stuff, they could add it to the mainline game too.

Regarding Asobi, they said when moved to the new office that they planned to grow until being around 100 people. They said that had a main team working on the next game (Astro) and then people researching and working on different concepts they are incubating and could end being new games, new mechanics or features.

The other half of Japan studio (their XDEV Japan team) is also growing in their own office, working in Asian more 2nd party games than ever before.

They can even get anime characters like One Piece, DBZ, Jujutsu Kaisen by having relationship by owning Crunchyroll.
Having the rights to use these IPs in anime doesn't mean they have also the rights to use them in videogames.

Bandai Namco has the rights for videogames regarding One Pice and DBZ (plus many more like Naruto). Sony -via Aniplex- has, and has been using, Demon Slayer.

People wasting time with Lego Horizon, while PS5 hardware sales in Europe are cratering because Totoki doesn't want to cut the price.

Jim Ryan literally said he'd approve ports via email 😂 what is this revisionist stuff? He was a penny pincher through and through, from closing studios while in charge of SIEE and then PS Studios, to pushing a live service strategy that anybody could see would fail... He got PS Plus right, however subscriber count has to have fallen, as they stopped showing how many subscribers.

The effects of his leadership are now being felt by gamers with fewer exclusives, decaying relationship with Japanese studios (which are taking Microsoft's money), missed sales targets... He was great for revenue, terrible for those that want games to play.

Jim Ryan ran SIE on razor thin margins, never gave a shit about short-term profits or ROIC. He wanted to outsell the PS4 and steal market share from Microsoft and Nintendo.

SIE is having its best gen in North America and Asia in 20 years. It's on him.

The hardest part of the job is done. Will Totoki and Nishino destroy the european console market?

Totoki is planning to "achieve a new record high in profits during the 5th Mid-Range Plan", and said that lower PS5 hardware sales and multi-platform releases will drive profits ...

Nintendo is a complete joke in the post-pandemic world.

PS indeed need to improve in Europe.
It is the first gen ever to not have a price cut after 3 year… that is not helping.
