The first Nintendo did when Sony bought EVO was pull Smash of EVO lineup.
Nintendo never supported the Smash competitive community and were removing Smash from tournaments before Sony bought EVO.
Yet PS in the 4 years since they bought them show any signs of rebooting or purchasing a fighting game studio to make a platformer or translate PS ip to fighting games that could mainline EVO.
Melty Blood Type Lumina, one of the mainline EVO games on the editions made after Sony bought it, a Sony published game (via Lasengle, an Aniplex/Sony Music Japan subsidiary).
Most of the other EVO mainline games, despite being 3rd party, had some type of PS exclusivity or marketing deal with Sony.
EVO is mostly a marketing tool for Sony where they market their console, accesories and games.
Will see Aloy or Kratos on Smash before we see a PS platform fighter.
They already did it, and didn't work:
Embarrassing. The narrow sight of short term profit & growth instead of long will kill PS & make PS end up like Xbox.
No, it's the opposite.
To limit themselves to PS5 only SP games would kill them in the long term because game budgets skyrocket every generation and the sales/revenue, even if at record numbers and in a growing path, don't increase at the same pace at all to the point that most of their AAA games wouldn't be profitable this or next generation, specially considering that every year the percentage of game revenue from addons keeps replacing the percentage of game revenue coming from selling games.
They need extra revenue, profit and extra players, so this is why they grow to search new revenue sources in new markets or game types, as is GaaS and other platforms (mostly PC, mobile and movies/tv shows).
The console market had a small and slow growth in recent generations and they already ate almost all Xbox's and Nintendo's home console market share.
Its even crazy to think PS is pushing this 3rd party when Switch 2 will be at the power of a PS4 & get all JRPGS day 1 if not a couple months later & COD, Battlefield & GTA6 will release on Switch 2 either day 1 or at a later date. Switch 2 not only getting the same 3rd party as PS they’ll likely get exclusive Asia/Mobile focus games by default because of there strong position in console/handheld & Japan. Nintendo is also massively expanding they’ve almost double in headcount which equates to more Nintendo games being made permanently exclusive to the Switch while also having cheaper online subscription.
I didn't see any announcement of FFXIV, FFXV, FFXVI, FFVII remakes, Battlefield and GTA6 coming to Nintendo. Or any specific CoD.
The number of games being released on PlayStation, both in total and the ones not available in Switch keep beeing way more every year than the amount of Switch exclusives. This is one of the reasons of why there are way more games being sold every year on PS than in Switch.
