Looks like Sony might be bringing trophies to PlayStation PC games

After dataminers unearthed evidence last year that suggested Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered PC trophies might one day be a reality, we've been keeping our eyes and ears open for any further indication that Sony might be testing PlayStation PC trophies. Now, thanks to new evidence spotted on TrueTrophies' very own scanners, we once more have reason to believe Sony is hard at work bringing trophies to its PS5 games library on PC.

Recently, one of TrueTrophies' scanners — the very scanners that allow us to bring you up to date trophy lists directly from the PlayStation Network — picked up a new PS5 trophy list with an interesting additional platform listed alongside it: "PSPC." The trophy list in question was simply titled "Trophy Set" and wasn't attached to any particular game, appearing to be a test list of some kind.

With a little bit of digging, we were able to confirm that the "PSPC" platform listing referred to a new platform separate from the PS5, yet one that might still connect to the PS5 platform. This suggests the new platform could share compatibility with PS5 trophies — perhaps similar to how PS4, PS Vita, and PS3 trophies could all share a unified trophy list despite being available on separate platforms. Given that developers usually can't submit their own platforms to PSN, it would also suggest this list comes via Sony in some capacity.

Between the new platform listing, the compatibility with PS5 trophies, and the abbreviated name of the new platform itself, this data leads us to believe there's a chance that Sony is actively testing trophies for its PlayStation PC games. While we can't confirm that speculation with the data we have alone, it does correlate with the previously datamined PSN compatibility we saw last year, as well as a Sony FAQ that seemed to leave open the possibility of PlayStation PC trophies coming in the future.

With the upcoming Helldivers 2 release date seeing a simultaneous launch for the game across both PS5 and PC, it certainly seems like Sony is pushing harder than ever for a PlayStation presence on PC. By unifying trophy lists and PSN compatibility for games like Helldivers II across both platforms, PlayStation users would ideally be free to earn trophies on whichever platform they preferred.

What is this "PSPC" platform? Surely, they would either call it PC or Steam?

Would be dope if we could get a launcher too (before Steam fanboys attack me, this wouldn't mean not releasing games on Steam too).

Not having to buy Destiny expansions twice would be nice
At the very least, they should have their own launcher.
But if they're even porting their games to windows to begin with... 🤷‍♂️

The only plus side of having their own launcher with PS trophies is if it translated over to console as in Cross-buy type of thing. Where when you purchase a game and lets say get most of the trophies on PSN, but end up 100% it on PC? Cross buy thing would be cool but would mean select titles or maybe they just want their own Blizzard style launcher?

Dont know.

it would mean they would not have to cut anything to steam?

That would effectively kill their consoles for everyone but the most casual or poor.

Consoles still need to exist to keep the riff raff off PC.

If they implement crossbuy with Steam I'd be pretty happy as a customer. But I think PS would regret it, as it would lead to me not buying their hardware and buying games on Steam more often.

Steam already has achievements. No need for a parallel achievement system.

"I don't want anyone to compete with Steam, but I'd love to see companies devalue their own console platforms by offering me stuff on PC I won't give a shit about no matter what."

This is basically you now.

this is you.

You have zero room to talk. Even the idea of another launcher genuinely competing with Steam makes you shit your pants and go off on a multi-post rant.

For all we know that was probably Jim Ryan's next plan and, well, certain "changes" had to be made.

Because as you said, that would essentially kill off a lot of interest among enthusiasts (who generally comprise the bulk of Day 1 to Year 3/4 console sales, and the bulk of software sales & revenue) to invest in a PS6 or even a PS5 Pro, and start shifting more of their spending outside of the PS ecosystem.

Though, unless Sony scales back on the non-GaaS ports to PC, they run the risk of that still happening albeit at a reduced rate.
