We, as customers who prefer console, are second class citizens to PlayStation now. No two ways about it.

Have you considered building a PC? It's really nice having multiple options

Sony should have take these $200m because PC titles released fiscal year didn’t do that without Destiny.
Steam is not making PS titles on PC sells more… so why insist in Steam? They can have it own launcher/store and sells the same or more.
Sony already have the infrastructure… it is not like it will increase maintance costs like the others you listed.
Sony is the only player in the market that can have it own launcher because the Store they already have running pretty well… that is why you guys probably don’t understand… Sony already has a PC store front… they just need a simple launcher.
until it’s simply a cheap, user-friendly idiot-proof PC. There’s still appeal in that, but it would be so much less than it used to be.
Exclusives though, and the sense of a real identity. Like, before PS4 games got ported to PC, to me that platform was special. Everything from FF7 remake, to Death Stranding, to great Sony games. To the point even where a PC player might pick it up on the side for some gaming. But consoles are like that since the 360, hell maybe even since the OG Xbox released. Last true console was the GameCube.
It used to be that when you bought a PlayStation, you knew that you were a priority for the brand. Every exclusive game that came out, whether it was first party or funded by Sony, was made with PlayStation owners in mind. Now, there's nothing special about having one of their consoles because all their games end up on PC anyway, even if it takes a couple years. And now they're talking about putting trophies on PC as well, so that's one less thing that makes the PS3/PS4/PS5 unique. I know I'm being childish about it, but having owned every PlayStation console from 1 to 5, plus buying at least a dozen extra controllers for those consoles, and spending thousands on games and PS+ subscription renewals for the past 20+ years, I think I'm within my right to act this way. Doesn't mean people have to agree with me, though, and I know many don't.What makes you feel this way?

Yes Sony is following in Microsoft’s footsteps for some dumb reason. At this rate I think day and date is inevitable, probably by 2025.It seems just like what Microsoft did, sans Day 1 games for now. They’re replicating everything about the PlayStation experience on PC and kind of making it a floating ecosystem not dependent on hardware.
That’s not for me. I’d really rather a focus on specific, innovative hardware, with exclusives and an identity all its own.
I really think this embracing of the PC ecosystem to gain further first party game sales is short sighted, and will lead to a watering down of the platform until it’s simply a cheap, user-friendly idiot-proof PC. There’s still appeal in that, but it would be so much less than it used to be.
What is this "PSPC" platform? Surely, they would either call it PC or Steam?
For them is better to have their own PC storefront to sell their own games without paying the 12-30% cut to Valve, Epic, etc. and also helping them to keep the same ecosystem.I think this is not the case, and I HOPE this is not the case.
I don't actually care if achievements for Playstation games on Steam also unlock on your PS profile. It's just redundant. In a way it indicates that Sony believes their customers will play on both, which undermines a lot of Icon poster's anxiety about PC cannibalizing Playstation.
It means in near future when Sony will acquire Steam
It's not better for them because (as every other failed attempt demonstrates) their customers are on Steam, not some new bullshit. For them is better to have their own PC storefront to sell their own games without paying the 12-30% cut to Valve, Epic, etc. and also helping them to keep the same ecosystem.
I mean, if desired they could make their games crossbuy: buy it once and play it on PS or PC. With also cross-save: if you have both versions you could have your progress synchronized via cloud saves so you could move between let's say PS5, PC, Steamdeck or PS cloud gaming.
Regarding trophies, they could do as they did with the games that were in PS3, PS4, Vita: keep them with different trophies per system, or maybe better to merge them as in PS4 and PS5 specially if there's cross-save.
In addition to this, it would be good to have the same friendlist, text and video chat etc. than in PS or the PS app: basically to have a single ecosystem where all platforms are seamlessly integrated.
Imagine: you buy a game once and can play it natively on PS5 and (if available) on PC including PC handhelds, or via cloud in PS, PC, tvs, phones, tablets, smart tvs via cloud gaming. And you have the same trophies, friendlist, chat, etc. for all these platforms.
I think this is how things will be in the future. They must expand their userbase to make sure their 1st/2nd party AAA games are safer bets because as of today they cost around half a billion each and will be more expensive in the future.
Since the console userbase growth is pretty limited (even if they successfully prioritize console growth in many metrics) they must grow to other platforms, starting by the two biggest platforms in both userbase and revenue: mobile and PC. They successfully started to grow in PC (top 20 publisher last year) and mobile (top 10 publisher) and did it while also improving their console KPIs, so there's no sign that their current strategy negatively affects their console: in any case made it more popular.
The other previous failed attempts to compete against Steam couldn't include things like crossbuy with PlayStation, the PSN catalog and the Sony games. It's not better for them because (as every other failed attempt demonstrates) their customers are on Steam, not some new bullshit.
Also they don't need their own shitty PC launcher to facilitate cross-buy. Account linking already provides for this, and they should've done it from the start with Horizon. They want the double dip, which is short sighted.
I just disagree.A lot of people here don't understand that if you are not on Steam you are basically not on PC. You can discuss if bringing games to PC is a good idea or not for Playstation, but if you are going to do it you need to do it through Steam.

PlayStation doesn’t need Steam at all.
Blizzard had.It is better.
Others failed because they don’t have strong enough first-party lineup to make it happen.
You will say Blizzard had but they launch a game each 6 years.
Sony can make it own launcher on PC and be successful.
PS games costing half a billion? Stop spreading utter misinformation.I think this is how things will be in the future. You clearly have no idea of the budgets of AAA games.PS games costing half a billion? Stop spreading utter misinformation.
That means HFW never broke even. HFW sold 8.4 million copies by May 2023. If we account for the retail cut and discount, then it is highly likely it never crossed 500 million in revenue. HFW had to bring in 800 million in revenue to even be considered successful. You clearly have no idea of the budgets of AAA games.
It isn't misinformation, it's aprox. what nowadays AAA cost. Around half of them development, around half of them marketing.
It was leaked that the development costs (so not counting marketing, which traditionally is a very similar amount) of TLOU2 was $220M and the HFW $212M.
And they were previous gen games, every generation games get more expensive. And in this case, on top of that Sony is making more GaaS than before, and GaaS are more expensive due to extra years of post launch content.
This means Sony's AAA games of this generation will cost over half a billion. Sony has over two dozen games under development, and many of them are AAA games.
